St Maurice’s High School senior pupils were invited to attend and take part in the Children in Scotland Annual Conference 2016 in partnership with NLC at Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld. The pupils attended workshops and listened to inspirational speakers. They interviewed Mark McDonald, MSP, and Minister for Childcare and Early Years. The pupils involved were:

Throughout the 2 days Conference the pupils engaged with delegates, captured pictures, blogged and sent out tweets.  At the end of the 2nd day the young people presented their findings and reflections.  The Conference was opened by Mrs Isabelle Boyd, Assistant Chief Executive for NLC setting out the challenge, to everyone who work with young people, to find ways for professionals, to ensure that Scotland is the best place to grow up.  The overarching theme of the Conference was to explore important topics in order to make a difference to children’s health and wellbeing in Scotland.  The topics ranged from child protection, mental health, inequalities, inclusion, combatting poverty and improving outcomes.  The Conference closed with an address from Councillor Jim Robertson, Provost, NLC.

All of our pupils enjoyed the worthwhile experience and developed transferrable skills for the future.  The pupils were a credit to the school.  Well done!

Trip to Madrid - October 2016

Madrid

A trip to Madrid from Thursday 13th October - Tuesday 18th October was a once in a lifetime experience for 20 S2 and S3 pupils who travelled to Madrid to improve their footballing skills at The Ciudad Real Madrid training complex, where they had world class coaching from the Real Madrid youth coaches.  Additionally, they were given the opportunity to play against local opposition, whom they beat 2-1.  As well as the training experience, the group attended a match at the Vicente Calderón Stadium to watch the world class players of Atletico Madrid beat Granada 7-1.  The boys were also able to brush up on the Spanish culture with a visit to the city centre of Madrid and received a tour of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium to see the 11 European cups won by Real Madrid.  This was a memorable experience for all pupils in attendance and every pupil was a credit to the school.
