During the October break, a group of teachers
from Airdrie Academy visited Kenya to a skills camp called ‘Seed of Hope’ based within
the charity Vision Africa in memory of our Deputy Head Teacher Ruth Ross who
sadly died in 2015.
Teachers Mrs Dewar, Ms Ferguson, Mrs Campbell and Mr Buchanan prepared workshops for
the pupils to learn key skills for life as well as playing fun games. Forty-five pupils
took part in the ‘Seed of Hope’ project each day and enjoyed learning from our
teachers.
They also had the opportunity to participate in a safari and were delighted
to be involved in some of the great work being carried out there and to see the
impact of some of the £16000 which we raised last year.

We had a fantastic evening on the 11th of October, welcoming the Primary 7s and their parents/carers to the school with guided tours around the school with a chance to meet some teachers, see some of classrooms and also have the opportunity to speak to a number of our current pupils who attend Airdrie Academy.
Guests were also able to gain a greater insight into what happens in each subject such as; conducting a science experiment, watch a performance in drama, hear some talented musicians in music and even trying some of our fantastic equipment in the PE department.
We cannot wait to meet the Primary 7s again throughout the year during their day visits.
10th-14th of October was Health Week at Airdrie
Academy where pupils were given the opportunity to take part
in a range of different activities and workshops lead by teachers as well as
guest speakers.
A range of workshops ran throughout the
week including the “I can, I will” workshop, Suicide Prevention talks and some
pupils were even put through their paces with an Army Circuit to name a
few. To top off a fantastic week, all
pupils participated in either a walkathon or zumba class throughout the
day.
Health week was a fantastic success and was
enjoyed by all.

We were very proud to take two teams to the West of Scotland heat of the Kids’ Lit Quiz – a worldwide literature quiz.
Both teams did fantastically well and came back with prizes – a great reward for all the commitment and preparation they put in.
Well done all!
