Two S6 pupils from Airdrie Academy, Lauren
McKane and Aimee Weir (pictured right) recently organised a 24 hour sportathon to raise money
for ‘Vision Africa’.
Both pupils are actively involved in the
school’s P.E. Department and decided to combine their love of sport with
charity work.
The girls were supported by a committee of
S6 pupils who helped with the organisation and supervision of the event.

The sportathon started at 9 am on Friday 11th March and continued until 9am on Saturday 12th March. Pupils participated in a variety of sporting events throughout the day and night. The activities included football, dodgeball, badmintoin and fitness classes. Around 300 pupils participated in the event, demonstrating a real commitment to the event and to the ‘Vision Africa’ charity.
120 senior pupils and 24 staff participated in the overnight element of the event and participated through the early hours to support the cause.
The event was a huge success raising over £1300 for Vision Africa. This takes the total raised to around £15,000. The school is working hard to raise money for ‘Vision Africa’ in memory of Depute Headteacher, Mrs Ruth Ross.
The girls were well supported by the school’s sports leaders, other senior pupils and members of staff.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this event and made it such a success.
