Live pro cycling comes to Motherwell

The best cyclists in Britain will be racing around the streets of Motherwell tomorrow - and you can see all the action up close.

From 1pm on the day, there will be family activities and action on the course with thousands of cycling fans expected for the professional races, which start at 5.30pm. 

The racing starts and finishes on Hamilton Road, taking in High Road, Farm Street, Ladywell Road and Douglas Street.

Leading cyclists Katie Archibald, Charline Joiner and double Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott will be among the competitors in the Matrix Fitness Women's Grand Prix, starting at 5.30pm.

Then at 7.30pm ten teams compete in Round 4 of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series, including Team Wiggins, formed by Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins.

Schedule

  • 7am to midnight - streets on the circuit will be closed to traffic, although pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
  • 1pm - Motherwell Library will host a cycle treasure hunt, a children's magic show and a yarn-bombed bike display.
  • 1.50pm - amateur Youth A & B boys and girls races organised by Scottish Cycling
  • 2.40pm - amateur women's race organised by Scottish Cycling
  • 3.30pm - amateur senior's race organised by Scottish Cycling
  • 5.30pm - the Matrix Fitness women's race
  • 7.30pm - the Tour Series men's race
  • 9pm - presentation ceremony
