Letter to service users and carers
Monday 22 May 2023
Dear All,
I hope you are keeping well and have been enjoying the recent bank holidays.
The coronation of King Charles III has sparked excitement for a lot of people. I hope you all enjoyed the weekend whether you were celebrating or not.
Last week we marked Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme for the week was anxiety. Many of us will have experienced or know someone who has experienced anxiety, and so the week was a reminder to check in on ourselves and our loved ones. Further support for anxiety can be found on the NHS website.

North London Mental Health Partnership Strategy
Partnership O.S.C.A.R.S Staff Awards
This year our new Partnership Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme (O.S.C.A.R.S) will show our appreciation for the exceptional contribution our colleagues give every day, which we don’t think should go unnoticed!
As a Partnership, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey (BEH) Mental Health Trust and Camden and Islington Foundation Trust (C&I) service users are at the heart of everything we do, and this year the new service user-nominated Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award allows your voice to be heard!
This award allows you to recognise the contribution of a member of staff that has been pivotal to your care and experience at BEH or C&I. We would love for you to nominate a person who has gone the extra mile for you and/or others.
Click here for more information and details of how to vote. The deadline is 24 May.

Please get in touch and tell us your stories about working in the NHS. Have you spent all your working life in the NHS? Are you from a family that has a history of working in the NHS? Did you, or your family, travel to the UK to work in the NHS?
Please contact us if you are willing to share your story - we only need a few details and, if possible, a photo. Please email Communications@candi.nhs.uk with your story, or click here to find out more.

Camden and Islington choir delights service users and staff with coronation performances
The C&I choir delighted service users and staff with performances at Chase Farm Hospital and Highgate Mental Health Centre to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
The choir, made up of staff, governors, service users, and local residents of Camden and Islington played five sets on five wards across the two days.
The twelve-piece include a keyboardist, guitarist, two drummers, and a range of vocalists, performing sets including Bring Me Sunshine and Here Comes The Sun.

Lowther Road will create the best possible environment for mental health recovery
Lowther Road is Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust’s (C&I) new community mental health facility.
At the end of April, we held an event to celebrate the “topping out” of the building – which marks the point when the main structure is complete. Work will continue to finish the centre.
By the end of the year Lowther Road will provide a modern, welcoming space in the heart of the community. This will enable C&I to offer joined up services that address both mental health and physical health.
Importantly, it will also provide better working environments for our staff. The vision for Lowther Road has been created with input from our staff, service users and the local community. Thank you so much to everyone who has been involved so far.
The redevelopment, being built by UK construction company Kier, forms part of C&I’s exciting St Pancras Transformation Programme.Click here for more information on the St Pancras transformation programme.

International Nurses Day
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every on 12 May each year, to commemorate the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.
This year’s theme was “the contribution of nursing” and to mark this special day, nurses from across the Partnership shared a message about the contributions they feel they make to the profession, highlights from their work and what they enjoy the most about being a nurse.
Our nursing staff are committed to supporting service users, carers, families and loved ones. I am sure you'll join me in thanking them all for the fantastic work they do every day.

I am pleased that we have published our joint strategy with Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and over the months ahead, you will see our Partnership develop to offer more shared services.
I’m confident that the Partnership will mean an even higher level of care and greater consistency in what we can offer across north London and will be beneficial to both organisations and to those who use our services. If you have any questions about it, ask your usual contact at the Trust.
Please also get in touch with your Trust contact if you ever feel in need of greater support. We are here to care for you. Please take look after yourself and support those around you when possible.
