Journey to better mental health |

Our programme is taking shape |
|
Welcome to this latest edition of "Journey to better mental health" providing news and updates from our exciting St Pancras Transformation Programme.
My name is Alison Edgington, I joined the team in April as St Pancras Programme Director having previously worked with the Trust as Interim Managing Director for the Islington Division.
When talking about the Transformation Programme, it is important to remember that the scope goes beyond the redevelopment of the St Pancras Hospital site, which in itself will create a state-of-the-art health campus, as well as new homes, business and leisure opportunities.
Cutting-edge environments
Through the Programme we will also provide new inpatient and community facilities across Camden and Islington. These will be purpose-built facilities, fit for 21st Century mental health care, providing cutting-edge therapeutic environments for our service users and first class working spaces for staff.
Highgate East
The Programme will also deliver Highgate East, our new flagship inpatient facility, the construction of which is due to complete by the end of the year.

Highgate East is a beautiful building, with modern, trauma informed spaces which our service users and staff have helped to design.
Highgate East will provide a modern environment to support the recovery of service users with 78 single en suite rooms, outdoor space accessible from each ward and modern therapy spaces.
It will also form a new single campus with Highgate West, improving the way that clinical cover is organised and how facilities are managed.

The official “topping-out” of Lowther Road our new community mental health facility took place in Islington in April.
When it opens in early 2024, Lowther Road will provide a modern, welcoming space in the heart of the community for at least 100 staff.
The design includes 30 consultation rooms, as well as meeting room spaces and an information zone. Importantly, this will not be a space exclusively for our staff and service users, a community café will make this somewhere which everyone can use and enjoy.
The vision for Lowther Road has been created with input from our staff, service users and the local community.
Speaking during the “topping-out” event Jinjer Kandola MBE, North London Mental Health Partnership Chief Executive, said: “Lowther Road will create the best possible environment to enable mental health recovery by providing therapeutic spaces for our service users and giving our staff the facilities needed to provide the best possible care.
“The purpose-built design will provide a modern workplace for our clinical teams and the building will be future-proofed so that it can be adapted to accommodate a range of different services as needs change.”

Together with our development partner King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership, we have launched the second phase of consultation on plans to redevelop the St Pancras Hospital site.
Our vision for the site will see it become home to a centre of excellence for community mental health care, with an Institute of Mental Health, a brand new building for staff and service users, alongside new homes and green and accessible leisure space.
The redevelopment of the St Pancras Hospital site has also facilitated Oriel a joint partnership between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity to create a world-leading centre for advancing eye health.
The image below shows an artist's impression of how the space at St Pancras Hospital could be opened up through the redevelopment of the site.
