Journey to Better Mental Health |
|
Welcome to our new look newsletter “Journey to Better Mental Health” bringing you the latest updates about plans to redevelop our hospital and community sites across Camden and Islington.
The Transformation programme will ensure that our service users and staff have access to purpose-built, modern facilities.
As part of this work, in early August, our women’s Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Ruby Ward, moved to a newly designed facility at Highgate Mental Health Centre. The new ward includes a physical health suite, calm room, seclusion room and a spacious outdoor therapeutic garden.
The move will enhance the recovery and support of women who temporarily require this kind of care as part of their admission.
|
The new PICU will deliver the highest quality intensive psychiatric care to local service users leading to better clinical outcomes. Importantly, the 12 bedded Ruby Ward will care for their mental and physical health needs.

While this is a service mainly for women in the care of C&I and Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, it also welcomes patients from other London Mental Health Trusts.

C&I has awarded a £17m contract to Kier, the UK construction company, to deliver a new community mental health facility at 1 Lowther Road in Islington.
Improving the quality of our community facilities is a crucial part of our plans to help people with mental health problems to live well in their communities.
The redevelopment of Lowther Road, is an exciting project. It will create a modern, welcoming space allowing us to offer integrated services that address both mental health and physical health. The new facility will also provide an enhanced working environment for our clinical teams.
The Lowther Road construction will be completed in December 2023. For more information about our estate redevelopment plans visit our website via this link.

The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Nasim Ali, visited St Pancras Hospital in August to learn more about the development plans for the site. This was also an opportunity to explain to the Mayor how the redevelopment will release the funds needed to modernise our ageing buildings and strengthen mental health services for those living in Camden, Islington and beyond.
Mayor of Camden, Councillor Nasim Ali, was updated on our plans for the site by Malcolm McFrederick, St Pancras Transformation Programme Director.
