Christmas Greetings and Best Wishes for 2020 from Nottingham City LA by John Dexter, Director of Education

A highlight for me this term was the opportunity to see the work of the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company) with our schools, and enjoy a shortened version of the ‘Merchant of Venice’. A genuinely inspiring evening, in particular the positive reaction of the children of Aspley and Bilborough and from some of their parents who watched. But it was also a phrase that came back to me in a piece I read about the season of advent, which suggested the world needed more ‘Merchants of Hope’. As I reflected on this I thought of so many teachers, support staff and governors who do exactly that in Nottingham schools every day but perhaps especially so this time of year. Read On

This free week-long event is open to everyone who works within the Children’s and Adults Workforce in the City of Nottingham, including Local Authority, Health, Schools, Police, Private, Voluntary and Community Agencies. more info

Book your curriculum linked RSPB Schools Outreach sessions for the new year - Subsidised by the RSPB and rated as ‘Excellent Value for Money’ by teachers, The RSPB’s Schools Outreach Project has now been running for over four years, facilitating 500,000 ‘connection to nature experiences’ for pupils in 16 cities across the UK. The RSPB is now able to offer the sessions at subsidised rates. more info

Nottingham Citycare 0-19 Health Improvement Support: RSE for Primary and Secondary Schools - As you get ready for the Christmas break, a reminder of the ongoing offer of RSE support. This support will continue next year and is free for all Nottingham City schools, Primary and Secondary. Citycare have delivered a variety of sessions with City schools over the past few months and it has been great to have engagement with schools on the issue of RSE. more info

Funding for Research and Projects that Address Severe Learning Disabilities -  Schools can apply for grants to help children with severe learning difficulties. The grants can be used to purchase capital equipment, support capital works as well as covering project and core costs such as staff costs, general running and office costs. The next deadline for applications seeking funding in excess of £10,000 is Sunday1st March 2020. Applications for £10,000 and below can be submitted at any time. more info
