Child Sexual Exploitation Training- The offer for schools to have CSE training delivered is still available up to the summer holidays and continuing in the new term. This is a workshop style which can be done as part of an inset day or twilight session whenever is convenient for the school. It is suggested that secondary schools have a minimum of 2 hours and primary 1.5 hours if possible. So far Trinity, Emmanuel, Djanogly Academy, NUAST and Ellis Guilford have all had the workshop. Michael Rosen is coming to Nottingham - The Primary Teaching and Learning team are delighted to announce Michael Rosen as their special guest at the 2017/18 Teaching Assistant Annual Conference. This English-themed event will focus on how teaching assistants can support and inspire children’s love of literature, sharing strategies and tools that will excite and engage learners. SRE Support- There is an offer of support to schools throughout the year with their SRE provision whether this is in an assembly, drop down day or when the school may be covering a particular topic area. FPA Sexual Health Week 2017: 11th - 17th September - This year’s theme will look at pornography. This is a huge issue for young people and impacts how they view sex and relationships. There will be resources on the FPA website nearer the time. In preparation for sexual health week, schools can be offered assemblies and support with SRE sessions around the theme. Tour of Britain cycle race passes through Nottingham on Wednesday 6th September 2017 - The OVO Energy Tour of Britain cycle race passes through Nottinghamshire, in what will be the biggest free-to-attend sporting event the county has ever seen. The race takes place in 175km of the county’s roads starting in Mansfield and finishing in Newark on the same day. This will be a unique opportunity for the residents of Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas to see some of the world’s top cyclists. Young Black Achievers' Awards 2017 - Nottingham City Council's Equality and Community Relations Team alongside IDEAL are organising the Young Black Achievers' Awards. Safer Recruitment Training - From September 2017, the HR Advisory team will be running a half-day Safer Recruitment course. This course has been designed to meet the requirements of the School Staffing (England) Regulations 2009 to ensure that at least one person on any appointment panel has undertaken safer recruitment training. It will cover your legal duties and vigilance to keep children safe at all stages of the recruitment process, warning signs, how to interview and test applicants, pre-employment checks and how to address concerns. Pupil Record Cards – Education Services Nottingham order Pupil Record Cards in bulk and sell them to schools and academies for 40p each. Due to their weight postage can end up costing more than the Pupil Record Cards. From September 2017 onwards you have the choice of picking up your order at Loxley House at your convenience, paying for postage or we can package them up and have them ready for collection at the termly Admin Meetings. The Nottingham Big Tent Project: Virtual gallery - Schoolchildren in Nottingham created 80 pieces of artwork to fill an exhibition promoting cultural diversity. The works were displayed in a marquee in the Old Market Square in June. The project involved 35 local schools and was funded by a grant from the Scape Group. The event will take place at the Poppy and Pint in West Bridgford and there will be both a morning session (08:15-12:00) and an afternoon session (13:00-16:45).
