What rhymes with kindness?! - Paul Cookson, poet and Henry Priestman, musician and songwriter from 80's band The Christians, joined the West 8 Partnership Schools' Poetry Tour at the end of February, performing to over 1,780 pupils in their assemblies and working with 354 individual pupils across 9 West 8 schools to create their own songs and poems. Building on the childhood wellbeing work in Bilborough and across Nottingham City, the theme for the songs and poems was Kindness and we used the A-Z of Kind Words, created by pupils at Primary Parliament last year, to introduce the topic.
Pupils from Westbury School created a poem called "Build up the Bridges....from me to you" and the Glenbrook Primary School Council wrote a whole school song, with a chorus of kind words and verses including the line "I've got a smile....I'd like to share it with you". It was wonderful to watch Paul and Henry work with the children and young people to engage them in different styles of poetry and support them to create their own poems and songs. They were Awesome, Brilliant, Caring and Determined to leave us with a range of Kindness songs to share with each other in Bilborough.

Schools, academies and maintained nurseries that have places for 3-year-olds can get involved by emailing research@peeple.org.uk and more information about the Learning Together Study is available at www.peeple.org.uk/ltsThe study will train practitioners free of charge to deliver the Peep Learning Together Programme to groups of children and their parents and will evaluate its effects. The evaluation will be carried out by Queen’s University Belfast. World Autism Awareness Week at School - From 27th March to 2nd April, there are loads of ways to get involved in 2017's World Autism Awareness Week at school. Teach your students about autism, fundraise for autistic people and spread the word with free resources like lesson plans, activities and idea packs. At least 1 in 100 people in the UK have autism, so there are autistic people at your school, who you see every day. We know that indifference and hostility towards autistic people and their families leads to social isolation, mental illness and unhappy lives. But we also know that helping young people – and teachers – to understand autism as they grow up will equip them to accept and empathise with autistic people. Free teacher resource packs are available here http://bit.ly/2k8heLb
