Oak Field School and Sports College Healthy Schools Award Presentation (11th November 2016) - Congratulations to Oak Field School and Sports College who were presented with the Healthy Schools Health and Wellbeing Award. The whole school has worked hard to achieve meaningful outcomes in the areas of Health and Hygiene and Sex and Relationships Education. In addition, the school has been reaccredited with their Healthy Schools status.

Councillor Wendy Smith presented pupils with newly styled plaques on behalf of The PSHE Advisory Service, represented by Jane Hyland. These awards mark the latest acknowledgement of a continued commitment to positive outcomes for pupils at Oak Field in relation to health and wellbeing.

Pension Annual Benefit Statements - Pension Annual Benefit Statements, for current active members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) administered by Nottingham City Council will be issued from 30 November. These will mainly be for school support staff. The Annual Benefit Statement is issued by the Scheme Managers, Nottinghamshire Local Government Pensions Fund (Nottinghamshire County Council). As you may be aware, the pension scheme has changed over recent years. To help explain how your Annual Benefit Statement is comprised a useful Guide to your 2016 LGPS Benefits will be provided with the letter.  The Guide will provide answers to the most common queries that you may have about your Annual Benefit Statement. There are also instructions on the Annual Benefit Statement about who to contact should you have any further queries. This is a good time to remind colleagues that if you have not made a nomination for a death grant, that the nomination form is available from the Nottingham City Council intranet site at  http://gossweb.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/nccextranet/index.aspx?articleid=18817 or from the Nottinghamshire Pension Fund website at http://www.nottspf.org.uk/members/death-grant-nomination The Local Government Pension Scheme is a statutory public sector pension scheme, providing secure savings for your future retirement. Services for Schools Marketplace event – Many of Nottingham City Council’s services for schools will be exhibiting at the next Nottingham ASBM (Nottingham Association of School Business Management) conference at Kelham Hall on February 8th 2017.  Nottingham ASBM members are invited for the whole conference as usual. Nottingham in Bloom - Nottingham in Bloom is running a competition for pupils in Nottingham to design a logo for their ‘Help the Hedgehogs of Nottingham’ campaign. The campaign encourages local people to help prevent the decline of hedgehogs by taking some simple steps and the winning logo will be used on a new website and all associated publicity. The winning school will receive a hedgehog workshop for a class of pupils and learn how to build a hedgehog tunnel for the school grounds. Galleries of Justice Museum - Launching in 2017, the National Justice Museum will be the new name for the Galleries of Justice Museum. We want feedback from local teachers to help us shape the new education programme and packages for school visits at the Museum. Recruitment
- Teach First’s current teaching cohort includes 181 trainees and NQTs placed across the East Midlands.
- Within that, Teach First recruited and placed 48 STEM teachers and 56 primary teachers.
- Teach First expect to recruit and place around 115 more teachers in the region for September 2017, with 20-25% being experienced professionals/career changers.

Retention and Success
- 63% of the 2014 East Midlands cohort remain in teaching, while the total figure since 2007 for Teach First in the region is 60%. This is similar to other ITT retention rates.
- 98% of Teach First QTS awards in East Midlands were at the grading of Good or Outstanding last year.

Teach First’s new programme (PGDE)
- Find attached a cohort document that introduces the new Teach First 2017 leadership development programme.
- The programme will include a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (PGDE) - a two-year qualification worth 120 Masters credit and QTS.

Get Out Get Active - Nottingham City Council and the English Federation of Disability Sport will be running an exciting programme of inclusive sport and physical activity for all ages and abilities, called Get Out Get Active, from early 2017. One of the first activities to launch will be a family-friendly cycling course called Learn2Cycle.  This will offer free cycle training for four to nine year olds each Tuesday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm from Tuesday 24 January to Tuesday 28 March 2017, although some children may find they learn quickly and complete the course early. The sessions will take place indoors at Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Bilborough, in a safe, fun environment.  The instructors will be fully qualified and high-quality bikes and helmets will be provided. Spaces are limited and should be booked by calling 0115 8761600. Find out more about Get Out Get Active at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/goga.
