Urgent and important stories...!
The
Nottingham Big Tent Project - We
are rightly proud of our community spirit across the City and this project is
intended to celebrate Nottingham's richly diverse population. We are inviting
all schools, academies and settings to contribute a 900mm x 900mm panel, or
panels!, to the Nottingham Big Tent that will be on display from Summer Term
2017. It may be a panel to celebrate the diversity in your school, or a single
class group, or individual pupils for their GCSE or A level textiles project,
or a number of panels from interested pupils or staff! For more information please visit: http://www.nottinghamschools.org.uk/scene/september-2016-scene-articles/

you like to share your skills and experience with other DSL’s in City

safeguarding skills and lead forward developments in the safeguarding arena
locally? If so, would you like to become an Advanced Designated
Safeguarding Lead? For further information and application details please

Personal Safety and Conflict Resolution Training -
Friday 14th October, venue: Room LB22, Loxley House (9.30am to 4.30pm). Aim: To
enable participants to understand the issues associated with the management of
challenging behaviour and personal safety risk assessment within their work
setting (for colleagues from schools this would enable them to deal more
effectively with parents or 3rd parties rather than students).
By the end of this workshop, delegates will be able to:
• Apply the theory of the crisis cycle/behaviour escalation – relating this to
self and others. • Understand why people challenge. • Use words and body language and active support to respond to and reduce
heightened anxiety and aggression: calming techniques, empathy, active
listening, redirection and planned ignoring. • Communication skills and learning disabilities – what we can do to support
communication. • Work in accordance with NCC policy. • Consider organisational, team and personal strategies in relation to ‘dynamic
and planned’ risk assessment and consistent approaches. • Use appropriate release techniques and understand the Law in terms of
Reasonable Force.
