Personal Safety and Conflict Resolution Training - Friday 14th October, venue: Room LB22, Loxley House (9.30am to 4.30pm). Aim: To enable participants to understand the issues associated with the management of challenging behaviour and personal safety risk assessment within their work setting (for colleagues from schools this would enable them to deal more effectively with parents or 3rd parties rather than students). By the end of this workshop, delegates will be able to:

• Apply the theory of the crisis cycle/behaviour escalation – relating this to self and others.
• Understand why people challenge.
• Use words and body language and active support to respond to and reduce heightened anxiety and aggression: calming techniques, empathy, active listening, redirection and planned ignoring.
• Communication skills and learning disabilities – what we can do to support communication.
• Work in accordance with NCC policy.
• Consider organisational, team and personal strategies in relation to ‘dynamic and planned’ risk assessment and consistent approaches.
• Use appropriate release techniques and understand the Law in terms of Reasonable Force.
