The Impact of Loss and Bereavement on People Experiencing Multiple and Complex Needs
Mon 20th May 1-3pm, Nottingham CVS
Loss and bereavement is a universally painful and complicated experience, however people facing multiple and complex issues in their lives experience loss at a disproportionate rate. As practitioners, you will recognise that loss and bereavement is experienced more frequently and as a result of particularly traumatic situations (often as the result of sudden death or suicide) and when working with people experiencing multiple and complex needs it can be especially challenging to understand the grieving process and offer the most appropriate support.
Revolving Doors Agency is a national charity that exists to end the cycle of personal crisis and crime. This workshop (hosted by Vicki Cardwell) aims to equip participants with the knowledge to better respond to the needs of those people struggling to cope with multiple crises. Underpinned by the Revolving Doors Agency Research Network on severe and multiple disadvantage, Vicki will:
- Present key findings on the prevalence and impact of loss and bereavement on this client group
- Share insights gained in this research from people with lived experience
- Examine the complications of the grieving process, particularly disenfranchised grief that is not recognised by wider society
- Consider how this research can translate into practice

Join us for a workshop which will look at the following:
What is a trauma informed approach?
- What are the signs of complex trauma?
- How do we overcome the barriers to working in a trauma informed way?
- How do we look after ourselves?
