Dear Colleague
|
We are pleased to announce that the MetroPolis Magazine has been officially launched. You can read the magazine by clicking here, or you can order a free hard copy by getting in touch with the MetroPolis team. Further details can be found within our news article.
Looking ahead, MetroPolis is proud to support a range of events spanning topics from crime and justice to healthcare reform and the enrichment of local economies. From the Criminal Justice Research Symposium to the Community Wealth Building Summit 2025, our upcoming programme puts bold ideas and diverse voices at the heart of policy change. We are also excited to host a panel event: Who is Taking Care of Our Jurors? and to support The Manchester International Crime and Justice Film Festival.
We have a packed agenda of activity throughout May and look forward to sharing further news about these events, including two MetroPolis training sessions: one focused on influencing Parliament and policy, and the other on Creative Tools for Policymaking — the first MetroPolis workshop of its kind, uniquely examining the new, creative, and innovative approaches researchers can use to influence policymaking.
Not only do we have a schedule packed with events, but we also have not one but two blogs. One addressing challenges in the adult social care sector, and the other examining inclusive international tourism, featuring insights from a MetroPolis supported workshop in Zimbabwe.

We are pleased to support the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) in the organisation of the upcoming Community Wealth Building (CWB) Summit 2025. This summit will bring together policymakers, community leaders and grassroots innovators to explore how local democracy and inclusive economic strategies can build fairer, more resilient communities. With keynote speakers including Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham the day will feature discussions on wellbeing economies, people-powered policymaking, and community wealth in action.
“We are delighted to be holding this year’s Summit at Manchester Met, with support from the Metropolis team. The questions that we’ll be exploring throughout the day are of vital importance to the future of our places and our democracy and having the expert eye of so many MMU academics joining our panels is incredibly valuable to us.” (CLES Associate Director, Helen Power).
