MetroPolis Matters (July 2023) |

|
Dear Colleague
As we move into the summer holidays (with sun we hope!), we thought it would be the perfect time to reflect on the past six months since our re-launch. In this time, we’ve directly supported over 285 academics from across the University to help accelerate the policy impact of their research. This includes:
We have also been excited to host 3 high-profile external speaker events, considerably expand our Twitter and LinkedIn networks, and join forces with CLES, IPPR North, NEON and The People’s Powerhouse to create the New Economy North network of northern think tanks.
We’re now busy planning lots of activities for the upcoming academic year, including an ESRC Festival of Social Science 2023 event at Manchester Art Gallery, showcasing the findings of the Uncertain Futures research project.
If you have any feedback or ideas for MetroPolis, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Enjoy your summer break.

Since March, MetroPolis has been working with Showrunner Communications on a range of policy impact support for Manchester Met academics. In our latest blogpost, Showrunner's Director, Mark Fuller, explores why policymakers should draw more on academic research, and how Showrunner can help support this collaboration. |

At the end of June, we were excited to host a webinar, 'From Harm to Hope: Opportunities and Challenges for Criminal Justice and Social Work Professionals' with Manchester Met's Substance Use and Associated Behaviours (SUAB) research group.
Chaired by Professor Robert Ralphs (Manchester Met) and featuring insightful presentations from Ellie Reed (Change Grow Live) and Kevin Ball (HM Inspectorate of Probation), the webinar explored the impact of Dame Carol Black's independent review of drugs, and the UK Government's subsequent 10-year drugs strategy.
The event attracted over 120 attendees, who generously shared their own experiences and thoughts on this issue. You can now watch the webinar back on our website's Resources page.
