Is MK heading for Tier 3?
We have seen a sharp rise in infections. 537 cases for the week Monday 30 Nov to Sunday 6 Dec this is a rate of 196 cases per 100,000.
Hospital admissions for COVID-19 have increased. Although this reflects transmission before lockdown we have yet to see the effect of lockdown being released.
Watch the MK Council Leader, Pete Marland, give his update on COVID-19 in MK from 11 Dec here.
Every one of us need to be very cautious and adhere to the rules. #MakeSpace.
Think – SHOULD I do this, not CAN I do this.
Our 500th COVID-19 Champion
Thank you to all our champions for helping to share important information. We’re delighted we now have 500 people helping us in Milton Keynes, and here’s a word from our 500th champion.
"Hello, my name is Prince Peter Okojie and I have lived in Milton Keynes for seven years. I am the manager of a healthcare and recruitment service. We are based here in Milton Keynes at Emerson Valley. We provide home care and recruit personnel for healthcare organisations.
We are passionate about delivering person centred care, especially in this period of global pandemic and take our prevention and infection control measures very seriously.
I intend to share the COVID-19 Champion emails with my staff, and we will also pin the updates on our noticeboard. The virus can be prevented from spreading further if we all abide by the simple guidelines and help to keep each other safe."

Vaccination Update
Dr Ian Reckless Medical Director Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
At the hospital, we are vaccinating people over the age of 80, care home staff and a small number of ‘at risk’ NHS staff. People over the age of 80 have been contacted by the hospital - using our records - to invite them for vaccination. There is also a phone line for people over the age of 80 to call and book - details available from the MKUH website. Find out more about booking here.
The hospital vaccinated 175 people on the first day (Tuesday 08 December), and has now built up to 325 vaccination slots per day. We anticipate that the vaccine programme will rapidly increase in scale over the weeks ahead, with primary care and community hubs contributing to what will be a mammoth effort across the next few months as other vaccines come online.

Christmas guidance
The best gift we can give everyone we care about this Christmas is to keep each other safe.
Christmas Bubbles rules will be in place between 23rd to 27th December.
See the guidance for Christmas bubbles here.
Milton Keynes is currently following Tier 2 regulations. See Tier 2 information here.
We cannot mix with anyone indoors who is not part of our household or support bubble.
For example:
- pubs and restaurants
- shops
- leisure and entertainment venues
- personal care/close contact services
- places of worship
- public buildings, such as libraries, community centres and halls
- recycling and waste centres, car parks and public toilets
At least one person in the group should give their contact details to the venue or check in using the official NHS COVID-19 app so NHS Test and Trace can contact if needed.
We can meet with up to 6 people in a garden or outside space.
Read the full Christmas guidance here.
Looking for work?
This could be your New Future.
New Futures: Part of the COVID-19 Recovery Plan
Milton Keynes College and Milton Keynes Council have joined forces to provide free job support to people living in Milton Keynes.
The New Futures:MK project, which launched last month and will run for 18 months, aims to help more than 1,500 people back into work, including young people and adults who have lost or are at risk of losing their jobs in the wake of the COVID emergency.
Those taking part in the scheme will be given a careers coach, who will work with them 1-2-1 throughout the entire programme, and they’ll be able to sign up for short or long-term courses to retrain for the new world of work.
The Council is sponsoring New Futures:MK as part of its MK Covid-19 Economic Recovery Action Plan.
Anyone interested can sign-up for free support through the New Futures:MK scheme here.
