What type of mask are you using?
Single use masks are creating a pollution problem
As the world battles the coronavirus pandemic, more and more protective equipment is ending up in the sea.
Globally we are using 129 billion face masks and 65 billion plastic gloves every month, according to some estimates.
And divers and observers are spotting more of this discarded waste floating underwater, causing problems for wildlife and washing up on shorelines all over the world.
Reusable mask
It’s a good idea to have at least two. We have a simple how to make a face covering guide which you can find here.
What’s the best way to take off a face mask?
- Wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitiser
- Don’t touch the front of the mask or your face
- Carefully remove your mask by grasping the ear loops or untying the ties. For masks with a pair of ties, unfasten the bottom ones first, then the top ones
- If your mask has filters, remove them and throw them away. Fold the mask and put it directly into the laundry or into a disposable or washable bag for laundering.
- Clean your hands again.
MK Covid Champions Code of Conduct
The purpose of the COVID-19 Community Champion scheme is to help ensure that residents across Milton Keynes hear correct and consistent information about the COVID-19 arrangements. We recognise that there is often debate and sometimes disagreement, but our role is to tell people what the rules are so they can apply them to their everyday lives.
Therefore, as a COVID-19 Community Champion, you are asked to agree to these five guidelines:
- Any information or advice you circulate comes from Milton Keynes Council or the Government.
- You do not make political statements in respect of the advice you are sharing
- To ensure that key messages are not undermined please do not debate the merits of the guidance.
- If someone disagrees with the guidance simply signpost them to the correct information.
- Do not apply your own interpretation of guidelines – if in doubt, ask for clarification.
Keeping Healthy at Work
The greatest asset any organisation has is its employees and at this time of uncertainty every organisation will need the support of its workforce to secure its future. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the mental and physical health of employees. Now more than ever, employers must fulfil their fundamental duty of care to promote staff health and wellbeing, to give businesses the best opportunity for a full and sustained recovery.
