RDPE Growth Programme

Rural businesses across the district could benefit from access to £35 million in government funding to create new jobs, boost tourism, and unlock growth in rural areas. 

The government’s Rural Growth Programme, which opened for expressions of interest on Monday 4 November, provides grants for rural start-ups and businesses to purchase  equipment and machinery to grow their business or open up opportunities for tourism.

The threshold for minimum grants has been lowered from £35,000 to £20,000, meaning that smaller projects could now be eligible. If the Rural Payments Agency considers the project to be eligible, the applicant will then be invited to submit a full application. The deadline for all Expressions of Interest is Sunday 16 February 2020.

Call for Worcestershire Businesses to Diversify into Agri-tech

Worcs Agri-tech

An innovative new project aiming to promote entrepreneurship in Worcestershire’s agri-tech sector is set to launch its development programme next month at Pershore College.

GrowAgri Worcestershire, a £2m joint initiative between the college and the European Regional Development Fund, is tasked with supporting the development of technologies for use in the horticultural and agricultural industries.

Interested parties are invited to attend a business breakfast launch event at Pershore College on Wednesday 13 November at 7:30 am where they will be able to hear more about the programme and the introductory set of seminars scheduled for late winter 2019 and spring 2020.

Non UK Residents - Staying in the UK after Brexit


If you, colleagues or staff are  from the EU, European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland then please ensure everyone is aware that all should apply to stay in the UK after Brexit. This has generally been well promoted but it is still the case that many are unclear on the process and have not yet applied.

The deadline for applications depends on whether the UK leaves the EU with an agreement.

As you may already be aware, a new Get Ready For Brexit campaign to help businesses prepare for Brexit has been launched. The campaign aims to help businesses of any size or sector. The best way to avoid any unforeseen effects on your business is to get ready now, for Brexit.

As part of this, Worcestershire Business Central has been asked to report regularly to Central Government on how businesses in Worcestershire are affected by uncertainty around Brexit.

Five go live for World Restart A Heart Day

Restart a Heart

On World Restart A Heart Day this year, Wednesday 16th October, Heartstart Malvern celebrated after teaming up with Malvern Hills District Council to install no less than 5 Public Access Defibrillators around the Enigma and Spring Lane Business Parks of Malvern.

The funding for the defibrillators has become available thanks to a public/private sector partnership fund created to develop the Enigma Park a few years ago. Residual funds have been used to support this meaningful community project. The five sites have been chosen to give a good coverage of the area: Handyman House, Francis Carpet Showroom, Spring Court, Validair and Morrisons. Click here for more info.


Productivity Workshop: Lean Awareness

13th November 2019 | Morgan Motor Company, Malvern

On November 13th, the Manufacturing Growth Programme will be delivering the first Manufacturing Productivity Workshop in Worcestershire as part of a series being delivered across England. A range of 8 themed, FREE productivity workshops are being held across the country with the first focusing on ‘Lean Awareness’. The session will provide all delegates with a good understanding of Lean Principles and how waste reduction will improve business performance and the customer experience. It is suitable for all levels from shop floor to senior management. November’s workshop is being hosted by Morgan Motor Company and will include a complimentary factory tour to showcase their products and their LEAN processes.
