The Malvern Festival of Innovation returns 7th-12th October 2019 with a packed programme including a number of business focused events that will interest many local businesses:

- Business of Innovating, Wed 9th Oct afternoon at the Coach House Theatre. Featuring a series of fireside chats with business leaders from around the UK including Graham Dodgson speaking about strategies to get the best from your IP, author and leadership expert Hillarie Owen and digitalisation experts Paul Ashcroft and Garrick Jones.

- Start-up Stories, Wed 9th Oct evening at the Coach House Theatre, Great Malvern. The stories and experiences of three entrepreneurs including Malvern’s founder of Smartbox Assistive Technology; Paul Hawes.

- Cyber Security: Securing SMEs, Thurs. 10th Oct all day, Malvern Theatres. Full day of talks, exhibition and networking with industry leaders from the Global Cyber Alliance, Axa, The Trust Bridge, NCSC, Avast, IASME and Intel.

- Gala Dinner, Thurs. 10th Oct evening, Malvern College. Three course meal and after-dinner speech from the David Page, the CEO of business mix, on the power of collaboration.

- Environment & Sustainability, Fri 11th Oct, Coach House Theatre. With talks from Anna Bright, Chief Executive at Sustainability West Midlands, Prof Jon Bryson, Philip Mossop the founder of Wastecollection-dot-com and former MP and writer Tom Levitt.

Get Ready for Brexit

Businesses are now being urged to find out how Brexit will affect them and how to prepare by visiting the Government website. Answer a few questions to find out how your business should prepare.


Proof of Concept Grant

Proof of Concept Grant

Worcestershire 'Proof of Concept' is a grant fund that has been designed to support established and start-up businesses to develop innovative new products and processes within Worcestershire. Financial support is offered to projects that aim to investigate, advance and protect early stage innovative business ideas and to commercialise new innovations. The principal objective of the Proof of Concept fund is to encourage SME investment in innovation, specifically; creating products and services that are new to the company or new to the market. The fund offers grants of up to £30,000, representing 40% of the total project costs.

Business Energy Efficiency Programme Grant

BEEP

Lowering your energy bills can make a big difference to your business' bottom line, so if you are looking to cut costs, 'BEEP' can help.

Their ERDF funded Business Energy Efficiency Programme supports eligible businesses in Worcestershire to become more environmentally friendly, and in doing so, save money on energy costs.

The support on offer is twofold – firstly to assess your business premises, products and processes to see what improvements can be made with energy and resource usage and secondly, to provide grants of up to £20,000 (up to 40% of the total cost of the project) to implement the recommendations from the assessment and make your business more energy efficient.

Armed Forces Race Challenge B2B Partnerships

Captain Rikki Abel is a Malvern-based race driver preparing to compete at the top level of British Armed Forces racing next season after gaining his National A Race Licence this season.

The professionally built Nissan 200SX S13, loaded with a Chevrolet Corvette 6-litre V8 engine is nearing completion and he is hoping to be ready for the first race next Easter.

Rikki has been building his support network but still has space available for local businesses to support his racing and promote their business. Bespoke packages are available to partners including public speaking, static displays, trackside experiences and passenger rides.

ScaleUp Club

2nd October 2019 | Open Space Rooms, Upper Interfields, Malvern

ScaleUp Club is changing up a gear – you might even say it is ‘scaling up’! It is now running in partnership with Worcestershire Business Central (WBC) – and it’s going to be moving around the region – making it easier for business owners in different parts of Worcestershire to attend – and it will be free!

ScaleUp sessions explore the themes from within the pillars and are aimed at gaining freedom and control - escaping the owner’s trap - and providing the tools to scale up successfully and to navigate the ‘Valleys of Death’ along the way. The focus is on collaborative working with peers, addressing issues and opportunities and coming away with key take-aways / actions that can be implemented.

Local Industrial Strategy Consultation

15th October 2019 | Perry Suite, Three Counties Showground, Malvern

Circle2Success are partnering with Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership to host Local Industrial Strategy consultation events.

Businesses are being invited to participate in these consultation events, which will strengthen the local economy by producing long-term strategic plans based on clear evidence to boost productivity, create high quality well-paid jobs and bring investment into skills, industries and infrastructure.

The development of Worcestershire’s Local Industrial Strategy (LIS) relies on extensive local consultation with businesses and public partners. The LIS will build on unique local strengths to establish new ways of working between national and local government and the public and private sectors ensuring that the community reaches its economic potential and creates high quality good jobs.

Lifesaving Equipment and Training with Heartstart Malvern

16th October 2019 

Since its launch in 2017, Heartstart Malvern has provided free life-saving training to over 3,000 local residents and has installed 25 Public Access Defibrillators to help try and improve the survival rate from a cardiac arrest.

The survival rate from cardiac arrests in England is less than 10%. However, in some circumstances, where members of the public have been trained in simple resuscitation skills and a defibrillator is readily available, the survival rate can be increased to as much as 50%.

Heartstart Malvern is keen to encourage local employers to consider offering their life-saving training to their staff and the organisation can provide this locally. The training is very practical and takes about 90 minutes. No previous first aid knowledge is needed. Providing the opportunity for staff to be trained in simple resuscitation techniques will not only benefit the workplace but will also benefit the local community. The training would also be a good example of corporate social responsibility.

Two events for businesses are taking place locally on Wednesday 16th October to mark World restart a Heart Day. A breakfast event including a full training session is taking place at the Colwall Park Hotel from 7am to 9.30am. This is to be followed by a special lunchtime event being held at Malvern Rugby Club between 12.30pm and 2pm to provide local employers with an opportunity to find out more about Heartstart Malvern and the free training which they provide. The event will also be used to celebrate the recent installation of five public access defibrillators on Spring Lane and Enigma Business Park estates.

Innovate UK Malvern Clinics

7th November 2019 | Malvern Hills Science Park, Malvern

Join Ewa Bloch, the Midlands Innovate UK Regional Manager as she hosts a monthly clinic for local businesses with UK Innovate experts. Expect updates on funding streams available to businesses and organisations, information on Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP), Innovation Loans and Cyber Security-focused support and funding.

The clinics will be over three dates in 2019, giving businesses the opportunity to have 1:1's with Ewa. These 1:1's are to discover how Innovate UK can help support your business. These clinics are perfect if you're looking for funding and need help writing your application.

This Clinic will focus on funding for Cyber Security. If you are a Cyber Security business in Worcestershire, don't hesitate in signing up for a 1:1 session.

Chantry School Careers Fayre

8th November 2019 | Chantry School

Businesses are invited to support the Chantry School Careers Fayre. There are 3 areas they're looking for help with, should you be able to offer assistance with any they would be very grateful.

In the morning from 10.40 – 12.40 they have 2 activities running which the students will access in small groups supervised by a member of staff for 30 minute slots, meaning you would see 4 different groups of students within this activity session.

“Have a Go” – business representatives would bring in a practical activity relating to their area of industry for students to engage with. They would welcome you to set up and get settled into the area you will be working in from 9.45, the morning break is from 10.15-10.35 when tea and coffee will be provided for you.

“Hot Seat” – students will have pre-prepared questions they will ask you to figure out which area of industry you work in and what it is that you do. If you would like to arrive for around 10.15 to join them for tea and coffee you would be very welcome before getting started.

In the afternoon from 1.20 – 2.20 there will be an informal “Employers Fair” where students will be able to come around and chat to you further about your vocation and the company you are representing.

Three Counties Agricultural Society Careers Fair

23rd January 2020 | Three Counties Show Ground

The event will be inside, in the exhibition space known as Severn Hall and will take place from 10.00am until 4.00pm. The audience has grown and it is hoped to have at least 1,500 students in attendance for the 2020 event from local schools, colleges and also home educator groups. The industries that are significant within the three counties area will be promoted, as this will entice more schools to attend, but significant emphasis will also be placed on the land based and allied industries. 

The entire event will be free for both exhibitors and visitors, as it is part of the Society’s diverse charitable and educational activities, though sponsorship opportunities are available. The Trustees of the Society have also approved a significant budget to support the transport costs of the schools, which should have a very positive impact on footfall. 

Organisations, colleges/universities and businesses are all encouraged to create a display that is interactive and demonstrates the diversity of opportunities within their industry, as well as any apprenticeship/trainee schemes that they offer. The January date of the careers fair is an ideal time to be raising your profile with potential applicants and maximise the number of informed applications.
