Tech accelerator BetaDen is now recruiting for Cohort 2.0

BetaDen

BetaDen, Worcestershire’s first dynamic and ground-breaking commercial tech accelerator is now recruiting for Cohort 2.0, a unique programme dedicated to entrepreneurs and technology businesses in developing new concepts and product solutions co-located with the region’s 5G Testbed project team.

The programme offers intensive support to help techpreneurs, start-ups and SMEs to design and build their idea and prepare it for market launch or be positioned for investment. The unique package of support includes office space at the BetaDen Hub at Malvern Hills Science Park as part of the three-day per week programme, and access to: industry-leading technologists; business mentors for techpreneurs; events and workshops; investment coaching; Proof of concept grant funding; commercial meetings offering genuine routes to market; and marketing funding.

Applications will close on April 30th 2019. Those interested will need to apply here www.Beta-Den.com/Apply to complete an online form. The Worcestershire LEP and delivery partners will then be shortlisting businesses to progress applications, before selecting the final cohort.

Proof of Concept Funding Available

Worcestershire 'Proof of Concept' is a grant fund that has been designed to support established and start-up businesses to develop innovative new products and processes within Worcestershire. Financial support is offered to projects that aim to investigate, advance and protect early stage innovative business ideas and to commercialise new innovations. The principal objective of the Proof of Concept fund is to encourage SME investment in innovation, specifically; creating products and services that are new to the company or new to the market. The fund offers grants of up to £30,000, representing 40% of the total project costs.

Final LEADER Call - Rural Business Funding

LEADER

A final LEADER call has opened up for Worcestershire rural businesses looking to develop and grow.

If you have a great idea that is ready to go and need between £5k - £40k to kick start it you could be eligible to apply for the LEADER grant. LEADER funding can be used towards the following priorities: Support for micro and small business; Tourism; Farming productivity; Rural services; Culture and heritage; and Forestry productivity.

Please note that your project must be ready to go, with all permissions (e.g. planning) and 3 quotations for all works in place. You must be able to complete your project by March 2020.

The deadline for Expressions of Interest is 25th March 2019.  Please note that if you are successful at Expression of Interest stage you will be required to complete and submit your full application by 22nd April 2019.

Be Cyber Secure - Grants Available

Be Cyber Secure Programme

The Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2017 revealed that almost 7 in 10 large businesses identified a data breach or attack, costing in some cases millions of pounds. Would your business survive a similar attack?

Cyber Security has never been more important, particularly with the introduction of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), so now is the time to make your Worcestershire business more cyber secure. This programme provides free advice and grant funding to improve your cyber security.

Investing in Growth - Last Few Grants Remaining

Investing in Growth

The Investing in Growth Programme will provide a bespoke support package for Worcestershire businesses to ensure they are investment ready in order that they may access local, regional and national funding programmes to reach their growth potential. The last few grants of up to £30,000 are be available to support businesses to make a significant change in their development, to access new markets, innovate, diversify and generate business.  Please note any proposals must be able to achieve full spend by September 2019 so this will be particularly suited to capital equipment purchases.

Business Basics Funding

Businesses are being invited to apply for funding through the Business Basics Fund. The fund aims to build evidence on how to encourage SMEs to adopt productivity boosting technology and/or management practices. It is administered by Innovate UK on behalf of BEIS. Under the second round of the Business Basics Fund, for which a total of up to £2 million is available, 2 types of project will be funded: trials and proof of concept. All applications must be submitted before the 17th April 2019 deadline.

Final Spring Call for the Enterprising Worcestershire Grant

The final Spring Call for the Enterprising Worcestershire Grant Fund is open until 16 April 2019. The fund offers grants from £1000 up to a maximum of £2500 at a match funding rate of 50%.

The fund is open to Worcestershire SMEs that have been trading less than 36 months and that are trading at least 70% Business to Business. Click here for full details and to apply.


Worcestershire Works Well Scheme

Worcestershire Works Well

Worcestershire Works Well (WWW) is a FREE accreditation scheme designed to support businesses to improve the health and well-being of their employees. Improved employee health and well-being has been shown to improve profitability and productivity of businesses. Worcestershire Works Well is open to public, private and third sector organisations that are located in the county.

Businesses interested in signing up should visit the WWW website and complete the submission form. A representative from WWW will then be in touch to arrange a visit to the business to discuss the toolkit and standards.

Malvern Hills Business Forum

Israeli Cyber Firms Visiting Worcestershire Businesses

20th March 2019, 9am – 11:30am | Malvern Hills Science Park, Malvern

Worcestershire LEP (WLEP) are hosting 5 Israeli cyber companies and showcasing the ‘Cyber Valley’ (the area covering Malvern, GCHQ and Herefordshire) with a view to attracting the businesses to locate in the region. The companies' areas of interest are: Automotive, Aerospace, Manufacturing, critical infrastructures, cloud companies, legal tech solutions/GDPR.

Flexible Working Workshop

Businesses are being invited to a workshop to learn more about the latest developments in flexible working in Worcestershire.

The workshop will include the launch of Worcestershire’s first ever ‘Flexible Jobs Index’, which examines the proportion of high quality flexible jobs in the county following a research study carried out by Timewise Foundation, in collaboration with Hewett Recruitment and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Attendees will be able to learn more about the findings which encourage both employers and intermediaries to take action to adopt flexible hiring to support inclusive growth. Autism & Employment Awareness Event
