Pressing Print on a Bright Future
A teenager is starting the New Year with a bright future in the
printing industry after swapping college for an apprenticeship.
Tyler Cleveley has just finished a 12 month training programme with
Malvern based Printed Banners & Signs Ltd.
Over the last year the 19-year-old has been honing his skills in all
aspects of design and print from putting together artwork using the latest
software packages, to preparing files for print, operating digital and flatbed
printers and working with a range of other media.
As well as 12 months experience in the industry with the Spring Lane
South based company, Tyler has also gained a Level 3 City and Guilds Diploma in
ICT Professional Competence, equivalent to A-Levels.
He impressed so much during his training programme that he has now been
offered a permanent position with the company when his apprenticeship ends in
February.
The company received a £1,000 grant from Malvern Hills District Council
to help pay the costs of training Tyler. Further financial support is also
available from the Government.
Applications are being invited for grants that help fund the costs of capital expenditure on tourism infrastructure.
The aim is to support projects that will improve the range and quality of visitor experiences, and encourage more tourists to come, to stay longer and to spend more money in rural Worcestershire.
Priority will be given to projects that: create new or grow existing visitor attractions; develop infrastructure to connect rural visitor assets, including cycle way and footpaths, and local tourism signage and interpretation; support the use and provenance of Worcestershire food and drink.
The minimum grant amount is £50k. Expressions of Interest must be received before midnight on 31 May 2018.
Degree Apprenticeship Funding for Small Businesses
SMEs have an opportunity to access government funding for degree apprenticeship training, helping them to accelerate productivity and growth at a fraction of the usual cost.
If your UK wage bill is under £3 million per year, the government could pay up to 100% of the training costs.
Designed to fill skills gaps in business and industry, degree apprenticeships can be used for existing staff in the organisation or to help bring in new talent that will bring fresh ideas to the business.
Aston University is hosting a series of free workshops during February and March 2018 to help SMEs understand the benefits degree apprenticeships can bring to their organisation and get the advice and expertise to access funding.
