Easter Soft Play
Rainbow Fairy making bubbles at our Soft Play event.
On Tuesday, 8 April, the Child-Friendly Medway team were at The Pentagon Shopping Centre for our free Easter Soft Play event, where over 500 children, young people and families joined us to take part in a range of holiday-themed activities.
Children and young people had the opportunity to meet Peter Rabbit, and say ‘hi’ to Mojo, our Child-Friendly Medway mascot, as well as take part in games, bubbles, and dancing with a rainbow fairy!
Children and young people could also have fun on our soft play, bouncy castle, and have a go on the spinning wheel to win a prize. The fun didn’t stop there, with the opportunity to take part in an Easter trail, arts and crafts activities, parachute games (courtesy of Medway Adult Education), and watch a Child-Friendly Medway puppet theatre show!
Our For the Love of Reading Book Swap Shelf was also available for attendees to bring along some of their old books to swap for a title they hadn’t read before, where they could also take time to read a book in our story corner.
Partners joining us on the day included Family Action, Medway Parents and Carers Forum, Medway Council’s Healthy Family Team, and Medway Adult Education, who shared information on their services and what they do.
This event was a great way to start the half-term and truly got everyone into the Easter spirit!
This event was part of our Medway Start For Life programme.
Paddington in Peru Screening
Children, young people, and families seated to watch Paddington In Peru.
On Tuesday, 15 April, over 150 children and young people joined Child-Friendly Medway for our free screening of Paddington in Peru at MidKent College.
Children and young people were delighted when Paddington himself arrived for a very special meet-and-greet, waving and posing for photos with our London themed backdrops, where attendees could also dress up as Paddington, in his signature red hat and blue coat, with suitcase in hand.
Before the film began, Paddington-themed activities took place, where attendees could decorate their very own suitcase. Officers from Kent Police also joined us on the day and took part in the activities with the children and young people.
As part of our For the Love Of Reading initiative, we regularly pair book giveaways with film screenings, as this is a great way to encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book and further inspire a passion for reading. Every child and young person attending left with their own Paddington book to take home and read.
Following the event, one parent/carer shared with us:
“I brought my children to the Paddington event today, it was fantastic. The children have thoroughly enjoyed meeting Paddington, the activities, watching the movie and also the lovely books that were age appropriate for my 11 year old as well as my 4 year old!”
Snow White Screening
Child-Friendly Medway and Medway Adult Education, announcing winners to their activity.
Child-Friendly Medway were at the Odeon Cinema for our free screening of the new Snow White film on Thursday, 10 April, where over 260 children, young people, and parents/carers joined us.
Attendees were excited to see these classic characters on the big screen and hear the new songs.
One parent/carer shared this comment with us on social media:
“Thank you so much, my girls loved the film and we had such a lovely time and letting us be part of the day. So nice to see events like this organised.”
Medway Adult Education partnered with us for this event, sharing their free e-learning courses and running a timed-light game, where children and young people could have a go at pressing the lights in sequence; the lucky winners went home with tickets to Gillingham Football Club.
We would like to extend a thank you to Medway Adult Education for supporting this event, and to Kent Police for attending this event, engaging with children, young people, and families.
Rabbit Run
Children reading in our Story Corner at the Rabbit Run event.
This half-term, we returned to The Pentagon Shopping Centre with Rabbit Run, where children, young people, and families came long to take part in the Easter trail.
Children and young people began by getting their ears, tail, and nose to become an Easter rabbit, and then followed a trail around The Pentagon Shopping Centre, with over 400 completing the trail.
Partners joining us at this event included Medway Adult Education, Family Action, Medway Parents and Carers Forum, and Kent Police, sharing information and speaking with attendees.
Children and young people could also take part in Child-Friendly Medway’s colouring-in activity, read a book in our story corner, and could swap a book at our For the Love of Reading Book Swap Shelves, where young readers can exchange their pre-owned books for titles they haven’t read yet.
Parents/carers shared with us on social media “this was brilliant my boys absolutely loved every minute of it thank you Child-Friendly Medway” and “my kids had a fantastic day thank you so much Child-Friendly Medway”.
This event was part of our Medway Start For Life programme and delivered in partnership with The Pentagon Shopping Centre.
