Low Carbon Careers Throughout 2021 Groundwork Greater Manchester will be running a number of employment courses in Rochdale, Manchester and Trafford for young people looking to start their career in the green economy.
Unemployed young people between the ages of 18 and 25 will choose from 3 green economy sectors: the natural environment, waste and recycling, or property retrofitting.
Each young person will undertake 3 to 4 weeks of classroom based learning followed by a 2 week work placement plus support into employment by their dedicated employment coaches.
This programme has been developed with the support of employers to ensure that learners develop relevant new skills as well as a clear understanding of employer expectations and what it is like working in the sector.
Each course includes an accredited health and safety qualification and Carbon Literacy Certificate and is informed by current job and apprenticeship vacancies that local employers are recruiting for, to allow adaptation of course content and opportunities for young people to meet employers and find out about their business.

Leading in uncertainty – Peer support for charity and social enterprise leaders IVAR are running 90 minute drop-in peer support sessions for up to 10 charity leaders at a time, every week, from June, via zoom. Attendees will have a safe space to share challenges, time to pause and reflect, and the opportunity to hear each other’s experiences of adapting to and coping with leading in prolonged uncertainty. The sessions are for leaders of charities, community organisations and social enterprises, based in the UK. The sessions take place weekly, starting in June 2021, until April 2022. Manchester Resident Device Scheme Staying digitally connected is more important now than ever before. So, it’s great news that Manchester Libraries and Work and Skills teams have set up a new internet and device scheme. The team have an impressive 600 devices to give out over the next six months!
This scheme will help residents in Manchester who are the most vulnerable and digitally excluded to become better connected. It will allow them to have a Chromebook or tablet and have access to the internet.
To be eligible, you must live in Manchester, be 19 years plus, have no Internet access and have at least one of the following: long term health condition, disability, be over 65 or be of low income.
If you are a resident that has internet at home, but needs support, skills or confidence to get online, then they can help you. Please get in touch and they will give you all the support you need. Or you can refer someone you know.

One Manchester Kickstart Scheme - Paid Job Placements Available for 16 to 24 Year Olds One Manchester are offering paid six-month job placements. This is an exciting time to find out about the world of work and gain skills in your chosen career. They have 28 job placements available working alongside their experienced and friendly teams.
The Kickstart Scheme is a six-month paid job placement for 25 hours per week. The opportunities are varied across the business. They have already appointed 25 young people into positions within their company, and they're now recruiting again!
How to apply To be eligible you must be between 16–24 years old and claiming Universal Credit
To apply, you will need to discuss this with your Jobcentre Plus Work Coach, who will then approve your choice of vacancy and refer you to your vacancy of choice.
The application deadline is Wednesday 15 September and interviews will be from Monday 20 September. It’s that simple.

'Please give me space' is a new initiative from the makers of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard scheme. It is designed to support people with non-visible disabilities who find it difficult to socially distance. The emblem signals to others that they need to pay attention and give some space.
A new suite of resources for commissioners and providers of care has information in Appendix 1 for people with a learning disability, autistic people and families and carers around engaging with NHS services during the pandemic. It offers advice on how to get in touch with services and gain access to the support you need.

Sonder Radio Podcasting Course Sonder Radio are running a 3 week Podcasting course. During the course you will have the opportunity to learn how to create their own podcast and all that comes along with this exciting new digital landscape. Throughout the 3 weeks you will be guided through the nuts and bolts of this world by trained facilitators and supported wherever needed. This course is aimed at 50 to 70 year olds who are currently seeking employment. In the final week of the course we will also be running various workshops on employment, from interview techniques and tips to CV writing skills.

Sonder Radio 50+ Sonder Radio is a community radio station for the 50+ demographic in Greater Manchester. Founded in 2016, their key aims have been to promote wellbeing, reduce isolation and advocate digital inclusion. They achieve this by running various creative workshops and connecting people through the content made by the community at Sonder. They encourage people at all skill levels to take part in their workshops, as they are catered to help teach and guide every participant from the ground up. They pride themselves on not leaving anyone behind. There is always, in every person, the capacity to learn something new and at Sonder Radio they hope to provide that experience for everyone that gets involved.

Step Together Volunteering For My Future Ex-Offender Course Step Together Volunteering supports participants to build and develop the personal and practical skills needed to move forward. As well as offering progression routes into volunteering, training, and employment. Step Together Volunteering aim to help overcome the barriers ex-offenders face in finding work and this tailored course comprises 20 hours of guided learning, 1:1 mentoring and home learning, CV and interview techniques and a plan to get you into volunteering within your community.
Submission dates announced for Manchester Open Exhibition 2022 Applications for artists to be part of the 2022 Manchester Open Exhibition will open on 16 June. Submissions will be made via an online web portal on the HOME website, and are open to all, including those who may already identify as artists and those who might not, working in any medium. It is free to submit work for consideration, although HOME encourages donations in order to support their outreach and engagement programme. Workplace Deaf Awareness Training – Manchester Deaf Centre Upskilling your workforce in deaf awareness gives your staff the confidence to make your organisation accessible and welcoming for deaf and hard of hearing customers and employees.
All of thier Deaf Awareness training sessions are delivered by experienced, qualified tutors who are themselves profoundly deaf and have lived experience of the many barriers that deaf people face on a daily basis. Delivery is in British Sign Language, which provides a unique and authentic learning experience. A fully qualified sign language interpreter will be present to assist with communication between tutor and participants.

Young Enterprise - Toolkits for Parents, Teachers and Youth Workers Young Enterprise has worked hard to adapt a wide range of its programmes, to ensure that children and young people can still develop crucial work and money related skills from their own homes. Mental health first aid training opportunity Manchester Local Care Organisation have successfully managed to obtain funding for local people who live or work in Ancoats, Clayton and Bradford to join this free training opportunity. Funded by Manchester Local Care Organisation, these sessions will be held via zoom with a number of dates/times available from July – September. Participants will be provided with adequate training resources and will receive an accredited certificate upon completion. There are currently 75 places available so spaces are limited.
