The days are getting longer and the temperature is rising, providing the ideal opportunity to get back on your bike and enjoy all the benefits that go with it – from getting healthier, feeling happier and saving the planet!
MCRactive are encouraging the city to ride their bikes each week in June and join people across the country. Whether you want to ride every single day or just dip your toes get access to all the information you need to get pedalling! Everyone who takes part will be entered into draws for prizes ranging from t-shirts through to brand new bikes. You can take part in Bike Month by registering for free at lovetoride.net/gm.
Coming up this month, we also have an all ladies Manchester Joyriders Bike ride On Wednesday 9 June, starting from Cross City Withington Community Hospital to Manchester City Centre. Book your ticket and enjoy meeting new people and finding your love for cycling in our beautiful city.
And for anyone who cycles regularly, there's an opportunity to inspire others with the Manchester Guided Rides and Breeze Ride Leader courses which are now live and open for applications. If you're keen to lead entry level or family-friendly rides in Manchester, apply for the Breeze course on 16 October and the Guided Rides course on 11 September.

Last Thursday as part of #GoMadWalking for National Walking Month, MCRactive took part in the We Love MCR ‘Landmarks of Manchester 10k’. It’s great to hear that our staff had a “fab afternoon” and got a chance to “actually look at what our great city has to offer”. The challenge is definitely a great way to explore the city, get fit and fall in love with some of our greatest landmarks – all for a good cause too! The initiative is running until the end of July, and we encourage everyone to have a go and get involved! Click here to find out more.

We had a great time hosting the Manchester Invitational last week! It was brilliant to have the athletes, fantastic weather and our fans back on the day. Congratulations to all the athletes and to Bryggen Sports for delivering a brilliant event at the Manchester Regional Arena! You can view the results from the event here. Thank you to all of the organisers, spectators, volunteers and athletes. We’re now looking forward to the continental tour in 2022.

This year for the Great British Spring Clean, we’re coming together to freshen up the parks of Manchester and MCRactive needs your help. On Thursday 10 June, join the litter picking at Bradford Park (near the Etihad Stadium) and the surrounding area. Pop by the COVID safe litter picking drop-in station anytime between 11am and 2pm to grab equipment. Every minute of litter picking you pledge to do makes a difference. You can also find out more about recycling, and what we're doing in the city to encourage walking and cycling locally, whilst doing something positive for Manchester. If you can't make it to Bradford Park, there are other organised litter-picking opportunities too.

We’ve got something in the works that we're really excited about! In partnership with Royal Manchester Children Hospital, we’re delighted to create a series of YouTube videos aimed at obese children and their families to help them tackle obesity in Manchester. The series will be referred by local GPs as a useful alternative to PE videos created by the likes of Joe Wicks, which many of their patients can’t take part in due to weight and disabilities.
We can't wait to share these fun, quick and easy videos that are being lead by our instructors, Laura Gligan & Emma Walker. Each video will have a motivational idea at the end for children and families to take away and think about. Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube Channel and stay tuned!

It’s FriYAY and the last day of multi sports activity this half term! We’ve had a great week of holiday activities delivering multi-sports programmes across our facilities and parks in Manchester. The heat didn't stop the children from taking part and enjoying arts & crafts, games and the healthy free meals. It was great to have Councillors Annette Wright, Lee-Ann Igbon, Emily Rowles with us at Moss Side Leisure Centre to see some of the action! What an eventful week and we look forward to hosting more activities over the Summer.
