This newsletter provides a round-up of all the relevant news that Employer Link has gathered over the last month.

COVID-19

A collection of guidance can now be found on the Useful Resources concertina, under COVID-19. All government guidance can be read on their website.

COVID-19 update National Joint Council (NJC) for Local Government Services (LGS)

The NJC for LGS has issued a further general update on various COVID related issues including vaccinations and sickness absence.

Pay negotiations: local government services

The trade union 2021 pay claim for 'Green Book' staff (including a range of claims around broader conditions of service) was received on 15 February 2021. As reported in recent newsletters the employers will not be responding to the claim before the local elections on 6 May 2021.

Pay negotiations: teachers' pay 2021 (England)

The national employers (NEOST) written evidence to the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB) can be found on our one stop page. The employers gave oral evidence in March, and we expect the STRB to submit its recommendations to Government in time for a consultation on a the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions document for 2021/22 by July.

ACAS guidance: long COVID-19

New advice from ACAS offers practical tips for employers to manage the various effects of the long COVID-19 in a sensitive way, as well a range of options that can help staff get back to work safely.

Flexible working resource for schools

Timewise have created school-specific resources to help school leaders and business leaders think about creating more flexibility for staff. They're designed to support the planning and implementation of ideas by taking a whole-school approach to flexible and part time working.                                      

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)

This LGA fact sheet provides you with an overview of the reformed suite of NPQs to be introduced in September 2021 along with some Department for Education (DfE) responses to FAQs.

Resources to promote the Teaching Vacancies website

The DfE are hosting resources to promote the take-up of the free recruitment portal on their website. This includes a toolkit tailored to those with a network of senior leaders and decision makers 

Resources from the Health and Safety Executive

The HSE have developed (or updated) resources on managing asbestos in your school or college and Awareness and Prevention of Back Pain and other Musculoskeletal Disorders in the Early Years Workforce

Teacher recruitment bulletin

The latest DfE bulletin has details about physics teacher scholarships , future teaching scholars, guidance for schools recruiting from overseas and a DfE/Home Office webinar for schools about the points-based immigration system on 13 May.
