Adult social work health check survey 2018 - report of findings
This LGA survey, conducted in November 2018, collated the findings from English councils own annual health checks. The health check is an important tool which helps to support and deliver effective social work, and it is a key element of the Standards for Employers of Social Workers (Standard 1). The findings from the survey provide a snap shot of continuous improvement locally, regionally and nationally and enable the identification of trends, which can help to shape and inform priorities for social work at all levels. A copy of the report is available to download here.
LGA launches Transformation and Innovation Exchange
This month the LGA launched the Transformation and Innovation Exchange (TIEx). This new online initiative brings together a range of case studies, guidance and other resources about transformation, innovation and efficiency within local government. The tool will help authorities consider many facets of transformation improvement and encourage internal discussion. It gives councils the ability to share experiences within and between organisations.
The tool and content hub is free to access. It is recommended that the self-assessment process is undertaken by a range of senior council representatives who can then meet together to agree the consensus position that best reflects their organisation’s capabilities. The council has the ability to publish their assessment for others to see and compare. It then offers appropriate material to help next steps in improvement. Take a look here for more details.

LGA Annual Workforce Survey now available
Many thanks to those who contributed to the 2017/18 Workforce Survey, a national picture would not be possible without your support. A report looking at the national, district and single and upper results can be found here. In addition, for those who agreed to have their data published on LG Inform, you can find your benchmarking data here.
The report can be printed and the charts and the data behind them exported, providing you with a one stop shop for your HR benchmarking needs. If you didn’t originally agree to have your data published, but would now like to do so, please get in touch with lginform@local.gov.uk.
Due to demands for more contemporaneous HR data, we are starting a quarterly workforce benchmarking club. We will collect data on five core issues: sickness, turnover and vacancy rates, top five per cent earners and training budgets.
The club will launch in July, collecting data for April to June 2019, there will also be an opportunity to upload data for 2018/19. If you would like more information or are interested in benchmarking against one or more of these indicators, please contact stephen.richards@local.gov.uk to register your interest.

A minimum income standard for the UK in 2019 This Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) report is the annual update of the Minimum Income Standard (MIS) for the UK, based on what members of the public think we all need for an acceptable minimum standard of living.
