Peer training
The LGA is
holding a peer training event on 27 October in
London for officers
wishing to become peers and existing member peers. The training is
to equip you to be part of the new system-wide care and health peer challenge
teams helping system leaders with locally-driven improvement. As part of this
team, you will be invited to spend up to three days examining
the opportunities and challenges that a system is facing. At the end of the
peer challenge, the team will deliver a constructive feedback session to local
leaders and stakeholders. For further information, email kay.burkett@local.gov.uk or phone 07909 534126. To
register your place on the training day, please contact kate.biddlecombe@local.gov.uk
Facilitated integration workshop: finance module
The LGA has worked with the Chartered Institute for Public Finance Accountants and other key partners to develop a tool to support health and care systems in understanding and progressing their financial arrangements for integrated health and social care services. Follow up discussions and further support can be
offered. Email john.tench@local.gov.uk
for more information.
ASC risk self-assessment workshop and action planning
Building on positive feedback from the sector, the LGA commissioned a refresh
of the risk awareness self-assessment tool in 2016; and is now offering
councils (and system partners) the option of an external, independently facilitated workshop to undertake the self-assessment along with local
senior system leader.
Better Care Fund
The deadline
for submissions of each HWB's Better Care Plan is Monday
11 September. LGA and Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) assurers are gearing up to support the assurance
process, and the BCF support programme will continue to be available for any
localities facing challenge during or after assurance. If you have any issues
or questions, please raise with your Better Care Manager, care and health
improvement adviser or contact the support programme via chip@local.gov.uk.
Prevention Matters training
This full-day training session describes the context of the current health and
care system, explores the social determinants of health, the financial
benefits of investing in prevention, how all of the council's activities can
have a positive impact on health improvement and prevention, and what makes an
elected member an effective champion for health in their communities. This is
open to all elected members, whether district or upper tier with a cabinet
portfolio or not, and can be delivered in a single council or with a group of
authorities. Email john.tench@local.gov.uk to
discuss a session for your area.
Prevention Concordat for Better Mental Health
The Prevention Concordat for Better Mental
Health was launched by
Public Health England (PHE) on 30 August 2017. The resources help local areas with prevention
planning arrangements.
Mental health services: cost-effective commissioning
PHE has published return on investment resources to support local commissioners in designing and implementing mental health and wellbeing support services.
Design in the Public Sector
The LGA’s Design in the Public Sector programme supports councils and health partners to apply design process and methods to tackle public health challenges with a focus on prevention. If your organisation has a public health or prevention service challenge requiring some fresh thinking or a different approach, this could be your opportunity to receive training and support through this fully-funded innovative development programme. Apply now.
New Care Models events: sharing the learning
The LGA, NHS Providers, NHS Clinical
Commissioners and NHS Confederation are delivering a joint programme of events
to spread the learning from the new care models across the health and care
sector. An event on 28 November 2017 in London will offer insight into the
outcomes and lessons from the vanguards, as well as explore how they can inform
broader transformation work around the development of sustainability and
transformation partnerships and accountable care systems. Attendance is
free to members.
Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis, and we will
seek to ensure representation from across local government, NHS trusts and
CCGs. Please note that we may need to limit spaces to one delegate per
organisation. This event is also being held in Birmingham on 28 September 2017.
West Suffolk is going Dutch
With an ongoing push to keep older people independent and at home for longer,
many local authorities are looking for innovative and integrated approaches to
support this. Cllr Tony Goldson, Chairman of the Suffolk Health and Wellbeing
Board, explains how a highly successful Dutch
model could revolutionise the British system.
Fundraising Preference Service
The Fundraising
Preference Service (FPS) is a free service that allows members of the public to stop
direct marketing communications from specified charities via phone, text,
addressed mail, and/or email. The FPC has also created resources to support
professionals who work with vulnerable individuals.
Data sharing workshop: health, public health and social care
