With Easter bank holiday just around the corner and the weather set to be warm, we’re urging people to continue to follow the government advice - stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.
Coronavirus is a national emergency, life threatening for people of all ages, everywhere in the UK. The single most important action we can all take in fighting the coronavirus is to stay at home. Act like you’ve got it, if you go out, you can spread it and people will die.

What to do if you witness someone flouting ‘stay at home’ rules
Police across West Yorkshire are working hard to keep the public safe amid the ongoing threat from the coronavirus pandemic.
To help keep the city safe and protect our most vulnerable, please report non-emergency crimes online rather than phone by visiting the West Yorkshire Police website.
Your NHS is still here for you
It’s important that if you become seriously unwell with symptoms unrelated to coronavirus, you should continue to follow the usual procedure and get help quickly. Anyone experiencing a health emergency of this sort must call 999 or go to their local A&E.
A health emergency could be if you’re experiencing the following:
- Chest pains
- Black outs
- Severe blood loss
- Slurred speech
- A drooping face
- Loss of feeling in your arms or face
GP practices in the city have moved the majority of their appointments to telephone or video consultations. Face-to-face appointments are still offered where absolutely necessary with patients being advised accordingly.
Anyone who has symptoms of coronavirus should stay at home and use the NHS 111 online service
Leeds GP practices will stay open on Good Friday and Easter Monday for those who need help.

Leeds City Council are working with Safer Leeds to encourage people who may be experiencing abuse during this difficult time to seek help.

How the council is responding to the coronavirus
We've changed the way we work to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. Here's some of the things we've been up to so far:
- Directly contacting more than 1800 people who have requested help to get supplies. All have been sent a text or email to make sure they know that they can call the helpline number on 0113 378 1877. So far 585 have received a basic food box delivered to their door.
- Continuing to staff more than 200 schools across the city which remain open attended by 1,700 children from families of key workers or to support vulnerable families. These schools will remain open over the Easter holidays.
- Providing more than 6,500 children with free school meals through schools and local hubs across Leeds, with special diet provision in place to ensure all children can access appropriate food which meets their dietary needs.
- Continuing to provide regular contact and homecare visits where necessary with vulnerable residents and families through joint working with partners.
- Every council tenant aged 70 and over is being contacted by a housing officer to ensure that they are safe and well.
- Prioritising collections of over 700,000 black and green bins over the past fortnight to ensure essential household waste services are not affected.
- Issued business rate grants totalling £51.5million to more than 3,550 businesses in the city receiving support of between £10,000 and £25,000. The council is calling on any business which has not yet applied to register their details through the portal on the webpage.

People across Leeds are being encouraged to say thank you to all those currently working so hard to keep us safe and well while maintaining essential services.
The Leeds Big Thank You is an annual campaign which recognises all those who go above and beyond to help people during winter.
It’s now been extended to give people a chance to show their appreciation for all those working above and beyond during the current pandemic.
