Merton now in Tier 4 restrictions
Residents must stay at home except for specific purposes
Following the dangerous increase in COVID-19 infections, Merton and the whole of London have been moved into the new Tier 4 restrictions.
This means from today (Sunday 20 December):
- residents must stay home except for specific purposes
- all non-essential shops and close contact businesses, including hairdressers and nail salons will close
- all gyms and indoor leisure facilities must close
- people must work from home if they can
- no mixing of households indoors
- you must not leave your home to travel unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons
- no overnight stays outside your household or support bubble in Tier 4
- you are only allowed to meet one other person from outside of your household in an outdoor public space
- you must not leave your Tier 4 area, other than for legally permitted reasons.
These new restrictions also mean that residents must not meet anyone indoors over Christmas, unless you live with them, although existing support bubbles will remain in place for single-person households at risk of isolation.
While we fully support the measures the government announced to keep London safe, we know these announcements will be bitterly disappointing for all residents and we will need all the care, kindness and community spirit that has shone so brightly this year to get through the coming weeks.
This is an extremely serious situation where the virus is spreading quickly which makes it difficult to get back under control. We need everyone to follow the restrictions to protect the NHS, themselves and loved ones.
