Secure your bike
Bikes are expensive to replace but some simple steps can make
them secure.
PC Lee Smith said: "When leaving your bike use a
D-lock so it is securely fastened to a cycle stand or similar object. If
locking it to railings please make sure there is enough room for pedestrians to
get past.
"Investing in a good lock, which can’t be easily cut, can
deter bike thieves.
"Please make sure you’ve added your bike to the Bike
Register so it can be returned to you if it is stolen and then recovered.
"The easiest way to join the Bike Register is coming to a Mark it
in the Market event on the first Saturday of each month."

 Working with the community
Havering Council’s Cabinet Member for Community
Safety, Councillor Osman Dervish, said: “Welcome
to the latest edition of On the Beat in Gidea Park, Marshalls Park and Rise Park.
"Making sure Havering stays a safe
borough in which to live and work was one of the key messages that came out of
the budget consultation at the end of last year.
"This email update highlights some of
the ways the Council, Havering Police and local residents are working together
to deliver that objective.
"Its success is clear from the continuing fall in burglaries and other crimes in this area.
"It is only by all of us working together
that we can keep our area safe and crime down so if you see something
suspicious don’t look the other way but dial 999 or 101 and report it."

Secure your sheds
Sheds and garages can be attractive to thieves so it makes sense
to keep them secure.
Having a good lock on the door makes it difficult for a thief to
quickly pop in and steal your tools.
Putting tools, especially expensive power tools, into a locked
metal box which is secured to the floor or wall is also a good deterrent.
Having motion sensitive lighting can help keep criminals away and
some is solar powered so there is no running cost either.
