Three more Protected Zones for Harold Wood
Residents of Arlington
Gardens, Newhall Drive and Sackville Crescent got a
knock on the door from the police, or Havering Council’s community safety team (pictured)
at the end of February to invite them to help set up a safety zone in their
area.

Residents of 105 homes received community safety
packs (pictured right), including timer switch and window alarm, along with crime prevention
advice on how to make their homes safer.
A total of 108 residents were given cold calling
packs so they could display stickers making it clear that they didn’t want cold
callers to visit them.
More information on safety zones is available here.

Dangerous parking
Harold Wood SNT has been dealing with dangerous parking by
parents outside Harold Court Primary School, reminding them it is illegal to
park on zigzag lines near pedestrian crossings or outside schools.
Havering Council has also been using CCTV to enforce the
parking restrictions at the school.
Sergeant Charlie Routley said: “I can’t emphasise
enough the need for parking restrictions near schools to be followed, illegal
parking could cost a child its life which is why we take such complaints so
seriously.”

Secure your bike
Replacing a stolen bike can be expensive, and time consuming, but some simple steps can help you keep your bike secure.
Sergeant Charlie Routley, said: "When
leaving your bike use a D-lock so it is securely fastened to a cycle stand or
similar object. If locking it to railings please make sure there is enough room
for pedestrians to get past.
"Investing in a good lock, which can’t be
easily cut, can deter cycle thieves.
"Please make sure you’ve added your cycle to the Bike Register so
it can be returned to you if it is stolen and then recovered.
"The easiest way to join the Bike
Register is coming to a Mark it in the Market event on the first Saturday
of each month."

 No insurance, no vehicle
Havering Police is playing its part in Operation Cubo, a
regular crack-down by the Metropolitan Police to take vehicles off the road if
the driver doesn’t have the right insurance.
For example, nine vehicles were seized in the borough on Thursday
5 February.
The driver of this van walked
home with a £300 fine and six points on his licence

 Working with the community
Havering Council’s Cabinet Member for Community
Safety, Councillor Osman Dervish, said: “Welcome to the latest edition of On the Beat in Harold Park and Harold Wood.
"Making sure Havering stays a safe borough in which to live
and work was one of the key messages that came out of the budget consultation
at the end of last year.
"This email bulletin highlights some of the ways the Council,
Havering Police and local residents are working together to deliver that
objective.
"Once again we have seen the latest police figures show
significant falls in crime in this area and, with two new Safer Zones being
launched later this month, we hope that downward trend will continue during
2015.
"The Harold Wood Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) is working closely with local residents
offering free home security checks as well as the regular meetings with
residents who want to pop in for a chat with them.
"It isn’t just major crimes that are in the spotlight as the SNT, working with Havering Council’s parking enforcement CCTV camera car, has been
targeting school entrances at each end of the school day to persuade parents to
park safely.
"It is only by all of us working together that we can keep
our area safe and crime down so if you see something suspicious don’t look the
other way but dial 999 or 101 and report it."

Secure your sheds
Sheds and garages can be attractive to thieves so it
makes sense to keep them secure.
Having a good lock on the door makes it difficult for a
thief to quickly pop in and steal your tools.
Putting tools, especially expensive power tools, into a locked
metal box which is secured to the floor or wall is also a good deterrent.
Having motion sensitive lighting can help keep criminals
away and some are solar powered so there is no running cost either.
 Meet the SNT
Harold Wood SNT invites you to pop in for a coffee and chat
at the Team Base in Station Road, Harold Wood, between 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday 25 March and between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday 15 April.

 Don’t be a victim
Harold Wood SNT is offering residents a FREE home security
survey, which could help prevent them becoming a victim of crime.
If you want a survey of your home, please call the team on
0208 721 2509.
