The stars of Havering businesses have been celebrated at a glittering awards ceremony organised by Havering Council - with the top accolade, Havering Business of the Year sponsored by accountants, Kingston Smith, presented to Harrison Wipes (pictured above right) from Harold Hill. New waste laws for business
From January 2015 it will be
a criminal offence for businesses to mix recyclables with non-recyclable waste
types.
A summary conviction in a
Magistrates Court could mean a fine of £5,000 or unlimited fines if the offence
is serious enough to be heard in a Crown Court.
Under the new law, which
originates from the EU Waste
Framework Directive and is an amendment to the Waste
(England and Wales) Regulations 2011, businesses will be legally obliged to
ensure the separate storage of and collection of paper, glass, metal and
plastic waste.
Details of Havering Council’s
business waste collection service can be found
