sewing workshop 2016

FREE Sewing workshops

Due to the high demand for previous workshops Havering Council are running two more free sewing workshops for residents.

The workshops will include sewing demonstrations and repair techniques to help and encourage residents to alter or repair their clothes to give them a new lease of life instead of discarding them. The first on Saturday 14 January at Tesco, Roneo Corner 10am - 12noon will focus on simple sewing and repair techniques and the second workshop on 2 February at Upminster Library from 5.30pm - 7.30pm will look at more advanced upcycling and alteration skills.

There will also be lots of information and tips on how to look after clothes to make sure they stay in good condition for as long as possible. Residents can bring along an item of clothing for advice on how they could alter or prolong its life. Spaces are limited so booking is essential. Please follow the link below and click on the ‘Make a Love your Clothes enquiry’ button to request a place and a recycling officer will get back to you.

Take a deep breath...and have your say on emission charges

Transport for London and the Mayor of London would like your views on proposals to introduce a new £10 daily Emission Surcharge (also known as the “T-charge”) in 2017 for vehilces going in to central London. This would be for cars, vans, minibus and heavy vehicles registered in 2005 and older. This would be in addition to the Congestion Charge.

Additionally, they would like your views on changes to the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), a separate scheme that will replace the Emissions Surcharge and will have stricter emissions standards for vehicles.

To find out more and have your say, visit tfl.gov.uk/airquality-consultation. The consultation ends on Sunday 18 December.

Havering Green Points logoLGP resized 2016

Thanks to you the borough has raised almost £9,000 for ten local charities and community projects, who received their winnings at Langtons Hall in Hornchurch on Monday 12 December. They are pictured above receiving their awards from Havering's Mayor, Cllr. Philippa Crowder.

Members of the Green Points recycling rewards scheme have been donating their individual points to their favourite local charities and projects over the last 12 months. Saint Francis Hospice won the top prize of £4,377 with second favourite, the Havering Local Schools Fund bagging £1,318 and runners up winning between £1,000 and £70 each.

London Green Points - Havering is a partnership initiative between Havering Council and Local Green Points. It's been rewarding residents for reducing waste and recycling since January 2014. The scheme allows members to earn points, with every 400 points equating to £1, which they can choose to donate to a local charity or community project or spend on a choice of vouchers.

It’s easy to join Green Points. It's free, all you have to do is click here or call 020 7326 5055.

Pour liquids away

Pour your leftover drinks down the sink

It costs Havering around £135,000 per year to dispose of unemptied drinks bottles - so please pour any leftover drinks down the sink!

Then you can put your plastic bottle in your orange recycling sack or take your glass bottle to one of our many recycling bring bank sites around the Borough.
