Things are set to change in Romford Market Place. Havering
Council and its partners have a vision to transform Romford Market.
A £3.1 Million programme has been developed by Havering
Council in partnership with the Mayor of London, that’s designed to see the
historic Romford Market return to the heart of the community. It will also provide
the features that other successful town squares provide including a place where people
can meet, eat, shop and relax and where our local businesses can test out ideas
as well as having strong, well-known traders offering high quality produce that
will retain current customers and attract new ones.
Some things will always stay the same – the proud heritage and
theatre of the Market, the vista of the historic St. Edward the Confessor
Church, and the stories of generations of families who have met, socialised and
shopped there. Over the coming weeks
there will be an opportunity for everyone to have their say on the plans for
the redevelopment of Romford Market. Plans and designs will be exhibited in the
Market and online.
The run up to Christmas at Romford Market is set to be exciting
for businesses and visitors alike, with events and promotions designed to bring
in new customers, increase footfall and raise awareness of local businesses. From mid-October until Christmas Eve, events will include Apple Day, an Italian
Market, ‘Country Comes to Town’ week, a Gingerbread Market, and a celebration
of Small Business Saturday. Live music, talks and showcase events will
take place in a large exciting inflatable cube marquee. If you would like to get involved, fill in the
online application: www.romfordevents.co.uk.
On Friday 14 October the StartUp Britain Bus will be visiting Romford market, as part of its London Bus Tour. The aim of the bus is to give free, impartial advice to people thinking about, or in the process of starting a business. The bus will be in Romford Market from 9am until 4.30pm.
StartUp Britain is a national campaign by
entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, harnessing the expertise and passion of Britain’s leading
business-people to unleash entrepreneurship across the UK. The campaign is run
by the Centre for Entrepreneurs think tank, supported by NatWest &
sponsored by 123 Reg. Founded by eight entrepreneurs and launched in March 2011
by the Prime Minister, StartUp Britain is completely private sector funded, and
was launched in response to the government’s call for an ‘enterprise led’
recovery.
