Thursdays at 5.30pm:          


Networking in Havering

Networking is a proven way to build good relations with other businesses, which can lead to referrals and new business. There are a number of networking groups in Havering including those listed below.

BNI Evolution Chapter meets each Wednesday morning at Maylands Golf Club, Colchester Road, Harold Park,  RM3 0AZ from 7am – 8.30am.

BNI Valour chapter meets each Tuesday morning at Thames Gateway YMCA, Rush Green Road, Romford, RM7 0PH from 7am - 8.30am.

The 4N networking group meets every fortnight at Liberty Bell, Mercury Gardens, Romford, RM1 3EN on Thursdays from 8am - 10am.

The ebn Upminster and Hornchurch group meets at Manor Hotel, Berwick Pond Road, Rainham, RM13 9EL from 8am - 10am on alternate Tuesdays.

The Forum of Private Business meets on the second Friday of each month at YMCA, Roneo Corner, Rush Green Road, Romford, RM7 OPH, from 7.30am. More information: Gerry Goldner

Havering Chamber of Commerce and Industry is holding its next breakfast club meting on Friday 12 August from 7.30am - 9.30 am at Havering Museum in the High Street Romford. No registration required. If you require any further details please contact Barry Hicks on 01708 560066.

Book site visits 24/7

If you are a builder or developer who needs a site visit from a Havering Council Building Control officer you can now book that visit at any time 24/7 using our online booking service. Book online before 10am and your site can be visited the same day.

There are also many Building Control forms you can complete online here. Havering Council also issues a Building Control Briefing email update, which you can get free of charge here.


CEME Innovation Events

The CEME Innovation Centre is hosting range of workshops and events to support businesses. The first is on 8 September. 'Getting Results With Social Media' will help businesses understand how using social media can help them grow. You can book your place here.


Free Driver CPC training

Havering Council has been awarded funding from Transport for London to continue to offer free Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) accredited Safer Urban Driver Training to commercial drivers based or operating in the borough. This one day course educates drivers about road safety in relation to the most vulnerable road users: cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists.

Drivers can register now for September training courses at CEME Innovation Centre in Rainham, or businesses can book a free course at their premises on a date of their convenience (minimum 16 drivers). Find out more information or book on a course here.

Havering Council's email updates are proving popular with almost 116,000 subscribers, including around 9,000 business subscribers, now receiving one or more of the 43 bulletins produced each month.

Some are weekly, others are monthly and they cover news and information from most of the Council's service areas. You can see the full list of email updates here.

The finalists for the Havering Business Awards 2016 have been announced! You can read about the three finalists in the Business Person of the Year category here and see details of all the finalists here.

Havering Start-Up Programme Update

Emma Jones Enterrise Nation

A florist and a social entrepreneur are among the first ten Havering businesses to join an intensive programme of start-up support aimed at taking new local firms to the next level.

Over the next 18 months the partnership between small business support group Enterprise Nation and Havering Council is offering free business growth support with workshops, events and advice clinincs.

Food hygiene ratings sign

Food courses to

boost business

Havering Council, has partnered with professional trainers 'Health Works' to offer a one day food hygiene course with an exam at the end.

The course leads to a Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 2 Award in Food Hygiene and Catering courses are run at Havering Museum​, 19-21 High Street, Romford, RM1 1JU. Book your place for the next course held on 14 September here.

The Supply Chain Academy are holding a series of local free events sponsored by Uniserve, the largest privately owned international logistics and freight company in the UK who are based in Upminster. Upcoming dates include:

    The London Riverside BID Annual Sponsored Bike ride takes place on Friday 12 August 2016, raising money for the Rainham Royals Youth Club. 

    It's a 5 km ride along the River Thames from 11 am – 2.30pm.The Mayor of Havering – Cllr Philippa Crowder and her Consort Cllr John Crowder will start the race at the Barges car park, Coldharbour Lane and the ride will finish at the RSPB reserve.

    The Royals was originally established as a registered charity and voluntary organization in 1993, as a response from local residents of Rainham Village, who were concerned about the lack of provision for young people.

    Don't forget to look out for BID’s evening security guard from Security Projects Ltd, Kane White, taking part in the ride, Kane will be riding a unicycle!!

    Help for the construction sector

    A free session designed to help businesses in the construction sector to develop and improve understanding of key social media marketing techniques is being held next month. It will focus on the professional benefits of using LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as touching on Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest.

    The programme is designed for a range of attendees working in the construction sector, in particular, SMEs seeking business growth and development within the building trade.  It’s suitable for people with little knowledge of social media marketing, to those who feel competent in their marketing abilities and would like to gain confidence and a few extra tips!
