If in doubt, keep them out

If someone calls claiming to be from Havering Council, or to be a contractor working for the Council, ask to see their ID card. You can then call 01708 432170 to make sure the card is genuine.

Don’t let anyone into your home until you have checked their identity. Genuine callers don’t mind you checking on them and will wait outside until you have made the call.

More information is available here.

Do it in a day

Repairs and maintenance

toolbox

Do it in a day means our contractor, Breyer Group, will be carrying out all the repairs at a specific location on the same day.

Tenants should still report repairs in the normal way, so Breyer Group knows how many staff, and what equipment, may be needed to do the repairs. But if you see the contractor is working in your street and you have a non-urgent repair, you can report it directly to them and they will try to get it fixed for you on that day.

Breyer Group will be in the following areas on these Wednesdays:

17 August: Carnforth House, Marsden House, Bracknell House, Brackley House, Bedford House, Arnside House, Heathfield House, Hungerford House, Lodden House, Marsden House.

24 August: Morecambe House, Minefield House, Macclesfield House, Lynmouth, House, Luton House, Thrapston House, Haslingdon House, Halifax House, Glossop House, Epsom House, Gillingham House, Camelford House, Wilmslow House, Wolverton House, Newmarket House, Portmadoc House, Northampton House, Nelson House.

31 August: St Helens Court

Tenants and leaseholders are responsible for many basic repairs to their properties, so before logging a report please check if it is up to you to do the repair or whether the Council is responsible. Find out full details of your responsibilities here.

Regeneration proposals to build 1,500 new homes for local people

Consultations are currently taking place regarding proposals to regenerate 12 estates throughout the Borough and to build upto 1,500 much needed new Council homes. The land, which will remain in Council ownership, will provide additional new quality homes for local residents.

Meetings are being held to inform residents about plans for these possible future developments.

Details of future events for each area can be found at:

Chippenham Road, Farnham Road and Hilldene Avenue, Harold Hill

Maygreen Crescent and Park Lane, Hornchurch

Napier House and New Plymouth House, Rainham

Oldchurch Gardens, Romford

Waterloo Estate, Romford

Your comments taken at these meetings, or sent to us using the Ask Housing form, are to be included in a report which will be presented at the Council's Cabinet meeting this autumn 2016.

A final decision will be made shortly after regarding the development proposals.

If the Cabinet decides to approve the proposals, it will seek a suitable development partner to help deliver each scheme. This will happen with the full participation and consultation of all residents.

Should the schemes be approved. It is unlikely that any work would begin until early 2018.

Homes for older people

Housing Services Serena, Solar and Sunrise consultation 040716

A review of provision of accommodation for elderly people in Havering has been prepared, identifying what will be needed for the next 30 years, including extra care housing for the elderly and housing with specialist dementia care provision.

Part of the review includes proposals for investment in 12 sheltered housing schemes in Havering to improve the facilities so they can become community hubs for elderly people living nearby as well as within each scheme.

It is proposed that the:

1. Royal Jubilee Court site and the Serena, Solar and Sunrise scheme could each become an older persons’ village

2. Delderfield House, Dell Court, Maygreen Crescent and Park Lane, and Queen Street schemes would close with the land being used to provide Council housing for Havering people.

3. Brunswick Court scheme would be redeveloped as an extra care sheltered housing scheme.

More information is available here, including proposals for each individual scheme.
