Little Gerpins Lane 23 June 2016
We're counting the cost of clearing up more ‘industrial scale’ fly-tip after lorry loads of rubbish were dumped at in Upminster at Little Gerpins Lane on 23 June and at Pea Lane on 5 July.
The fly-tips completely blocked the roads with one tip consisting primarily of building rubble and the other rubbish that had already been processed at a waste transfer station. Little Gerpins Lane was also hit with a large fly-tip in April.
Extra resources have now been made available by the Council to investigate fly-tipping and additional CCTV cameras have been ordered for deployment in the area. If you see anything suspicious please report it.
New powers are now in force allowing councils to issue on-the-spot fines of up to £400 for fly-tippers who make residents' lives hell and cost taxpayers millions of pounds.
On-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notices can now be issued by council enforcement officers to help tackle small-scale fly-tipping, like dumping items such as pieces of broken furniture, old televisions and mattresses.

Council offers free training sessions and resources to residents of the Borough

eat healthily whilst also helping the environment, and would be willing
to share this knowledge with their family, friends and local community.
If you're interested in attending a training session then please visit www.havering.gov.uk/lovefood and complete
the online ‘Register your interest’ form. We will contact you when a
training date has been arranged. The sessions last up to two hours and
include lots of information about Love Food Hate Waste, and some
activities to teach you about reducing food waste and saving money.
On
average nearly half of black sack rubbish in Havering is food waste.
Together we can reduce this figure to help the environment and
save money. If you waste less food it's estimated that the average
