Heaton Ward by election vote on Thursday 5 May

Following the resignation of Philip Hyde, independent councillor for Heaton ward, a by-election will be held on Thursday 5 May - the same day as elections for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

What now?

Nominations for candidates to stand in this by election will be accepted between 10am and 4pm from Wednesday 30 March to Thursday 7 April.

​Following outstanding success in winning 47 prizes at last year's London in Bloom awards, the borough now goes forward as one of London's representatives to compete at national level in the Royal Horticultural Society's prestigious Britain in Bloom competition 2016.

Two meetings to discuss new safer parking at Broadford School

Broadford Primary School, in Farringdon Avenue, Harold Hill is one of six primary schools in Havering piloting a new initiative to tackle the problem of dangerous parking outside schools.

Residents can find out more at two meetings being held at the school on:

Monday 18 April, 4pm-6pm, Residents’ Drop In Session.

Wednesday 20 April, 4pm-6pm, Parents Drop In Session, 

A key part of the scheme is introducing a Public Space Protection Order under the Crime and Policing Act 2014, enforced by fixed CCTV cameras, with offending motorists fined £100 for each offence, with the threat of criminal prosecution for more offences.

Volunteers needed

Tapestry is looking for volunteers from Harold Hill to help at Paines Brook Court, a day centre that caters for the needs of frailer adults and those with dementia. Guests at the day centre enjoy a friendly chat, a freshly cooked meal in good company and a host of stimulating activities.

Free swimming

Children aged under eight-years-old will be able to swim for free at Central Park Leisure Centre, Harold Hill as everyone Active extends its swimming offer until October 2016.

Over 50s free swimming

Everyone Active also offers free swimming for adults aged 50 and above, at specific times throughout the week, which will also be extended until October 2016.

Havering Police’s Banksafe team will be providing free crime prevention advice on Tuesday 5 April, 10am – noon at TSB Bank, Hilldene Shopping Centre, Harold Hill.

Each police Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) holds meetings the public can attend and ask questions and get crime prevention advice.

Help and advice

The Early Help Service runs drop-in sessions and other activities at two places in Harold Hill -  Chippenham Road Children’s Centre and Community Hub and the Ingrebourne Children’s Centre and Community Hub in Taunton Road.

Looking for work?

The London - Harold Hill Job Club is free to attend and is facilitated by Christians Against Poverty.

It is run in association with the local food bank working in partnership with St Georges Church. It meets each Wednesday between, 10am and 2pm, at St Georges Church Centre.
