First event success
In February the Havering Compact and the leading charity Tapestry hosted an event to explore new ways of working together that would benefit the communities we serve.
The agenda included an update from Michelle Brown, Carers and Voluntary Sector Commissioning Manager, which included how procurement processes may change. An update from Paul Rose, Chair of the Havering Compact, on the developing role of the Compact and how the Havering Compact could assist the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS).
The success of this event was also due to the hosting of the event by Tapestry and the open and helpful guidance from the Charities CEO, Anthony Lowe.
The Havering Compact steering group will continue to keep you up to date through its newsletter, so watch out for the next update on this story.
If your organisation is interested in being part of a formal partnership please contact Paul Rose or Kim Vasa.
 The Compact Agreement
The refreshed
Compact agreement has been signed and outlines five principles for both sectors
to follow. Within each principle, there are undertakings for both sectors to commit to.
The Compact

2. Effective and transparent design and development of policies, programmes
and public services
3. Responsive and high-quality programmes and services
4. Clear arrangements for managing changes to programmes and services
5. An equal and fair society

 Sharing good practice
Across England
local Compacts are helping develop best practice and strengthen the VCS and
public sector delivery. There are many great success stories on the Compact Voice web site. The Compact Steering group hopes that in the near future there will be
great case studies and success stories posted on the Compact Voice web site
about Havering projects.
The Compact is here to help support getting the best
outcomes for our communities so please do engage with us as we continue to
develop.

Funding to expand and increase the sustainability of charities and
social enterprises
The Bulldog Trust Temple Place
Partnership (TPP) provides funding for charities and social enterprises.
It will open for applications on Friday 1 April 2016.
Between now and 2019, the
fund will offer 420 organisations grants of £1,000 to £30,000 and access to
skills, training, and strategic support for business.
There is £300,000 available in the 2015/16 funding round and a cap of 300 applications so
eligible organisations are advised to submit applications as soon as

Care
Network
We want to
give our care partners on-the-go access to the wealth of information from us
and the community we live in.
The providers
and organisations signed up to the network can receive news on tenders, new
projects and other useful information but also have the opportunity to book
onto training courses, workshops and events run by the council and other
external organisations, many of which are free and can contribute towards up
skilling the workforce.
The network
is currently used mostly by adult social care providers, including voluntary
groups, but work is in progress to register more organisations on the network.

Network.

Workshop to raise awareness of PREVENT
Prevent is part of the Home Office’s Counter Terrorism
Strategy and is about stopping people becoming terrorists or supporting violent
extremism.
Prevent deals with radicalisation and counter-radicalisation
in the following ways:
- Identifying individuals highlighted as vulnerable
towards radicalisation and violent extremism. When this happens the
individuals are referred to the 'Channel' program. If they are assessed as
vulnerable, steps can be taken to decrease the vulnerability. Channel
assesses the circumstances of vulnerable individuals upon referral and
arranges intervention in full co-operation with the Local Authority.
- Identifying venues which are of interest with regards
to radicalisation including those being used by radical groups/extremists
with the knowledge and consent of the venue organiser and also those which
have been hired by radicals/extremists.
- Identifying speakers who are radical/extreme or are
believed to be involved in the radicalisation of others.
- Identifying emerging tactics used by such groups and
individuals to promote their views and activities.
- Disrupting radical/extreme talks, tactics and
individuals
