 Beating burglars
The peak time for burglaries between October and February is between 4pm and 8pm. Opportunist burglars can tell if a house is empty due to it being in complete darkness when compared to neighbouring properties.
Timer switches - Available from most supermarkets and hardware shops. They cost as little as £5 and can be used to turn lamps and radios on when you are not home
Lock your UPVC doors with a key - Lift the handle, lock the door and remove the key.
Property mark valuable items - Using a UV Pen, mark all valuable items with your door number and postcode. This helps us identify if an item is stolen and also to help return it to its rightful owner.

Secure your cycle
Cycles are expensive to replace and some simple steps can make them secure.
PCSO Jackie Whitelock, from Havering Police Safer Transport Team, said: "The easiest way to join the Bike Register
is by coming to a Mark it in the Market event on the first Saturday of each month, near Cycles UK in Romford Market."
The next Mark it in the Market is on Saturday 6 February.
St Andrews SNT and Havering Safer Transport Team are holding a
bike marking session outside The
Fatling in Hornchurch High Street on Tuesday 16 February, 11am - 1pm.

 Advice on gangs
The vast majority of young people are not involved in gangs and want nothing to do with them. However, the behaviour of the small number of young people who are involved has a significant impact on communities, on their families and associates, as well as themselves.
A leaflet has been produced giving advice and information on gangs.
