Harold Hill Library is looking for volunteers to work alongside staff.

Volunteers can help with everything from creating exciting book displays to shelf stacking, to helping with baby-bounce events or teaching people how to use computers and iPads right through to fundraising or helping libraries reach more people.

Veolia North Thames Trust logo

£60,000 spent on Keats Avenue playground equipment

A range of new play equipment, worth £60,000, has been installed at Keats Avenue playground for younger children to use.

The equipment has been installed thanks to funding support from Veolia North Thames Trust, through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Harold Hill Bowls Club logo

£35,000 grant for bowls club

Harold Hill Bowls Club has received a grant of £35,000 from Veolia North Thames Trust, to provide a new kitchen and lounge at the club house in Broxhill Road.

Improvements to the toilet and changing room areas will be completed before the bowls season starts in May.

Free First Aid courses

St John Ambulance is running the following free courses at Pyrgo Priory Primary School, Harold Hill. Places are limited to 12 people on each course:

Basic Life Support for all ages, 9am – 1pm on Saturday 19 March.

Further First Aid, 2pm – 5pm on Saturday 19 March.

Paediatric Life Support, 9am – 1pm on Sunday 21 February and Saturday 30 April.

Paediatric First Aid, 2pm – 5pm on Sunday 21 February and Saturday 30 April.

Guitar for Beginners

Havering Adult College is offering this eight week course to learn how to play Guitar! You must bring your own acoustic guitar to these lessons. The course will start on Wednesday 20 January, 7pm – 9pm at the Redden Court School. The cost of the course is £82. Enquire about enrolment.  Get more information on music courses.


Radio Harold Hill logo

Radio training

Radio Harold Hill, based at St George’s Church Centre in Chippenham Road, has received a Big Lottery Fund grant to train more volunteers in radio production, script writing, radio interview techniques and customer services.

Trainees will learn in a live studio environment.


Harold Hill Police SNT at St Georges Church

Each police Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) holds meetings for the public can attend and ask questions and get crime prevention advice.

In Harold Hill there are two SNTs - Gooshays and Heaton - and their next meetings are:

Monday 11 January - drop-in session

Friday 15 January- drop-in session

Thursday 21 January - drop in session

The Gooshays SNT also hold regular coffee mornings (pictured) at St George's Church.

The Early Help Service runs drop-in sessions and other activities at two places in Harold Hill -  Chippenham Road Children’s Centre and Community Hub and the Ingrebourne Children’s Centre and Community Hub in Taunton Road.

The London - Harold Hill Job Club is free to attend and is facilitated by Christians Against Poverty.

It is run in association with the local food bank working in partnership with St Georges Church. It meets each Wednesday between, 10am and 2pm, at St Georges Church Centre

Act fast and make your views known on Council's budget plans

Harold Hill residents and business people are encouraged to comment on proposals to increase Council Tax to fund care for elderly and vulnerable adults before the deadline of Tuesday 2 February. The current consultation is separate to the budget consultation which closed in December last year.

This new consultation has been launched after a £10.8 million cut in government grant to Havering for next year.

Competition for winning leftovers

Here’s your chance to win either a Kenwood 3-in-1 Blender, Mill & Smoothie Maker or a Cookworks handheld blender, to help you create all those yummy Love Food Hate Waste soups and smoothies with your ripe or excess fruit and vegetables.

All you have to do is post a picture of a dish that you create with your lovely leftovers, along with the recipe, on to Havering Love Food Hate Waste Facebook page so that they can be shared. The winning dish will be judged on creativity, variety of leftover items, and ease of cooking.
