Upminster War Memorial

Remembrance Sunday

Upminster’s Remembrance Day Service and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial, St Mary's Lane, Upminster on Sunday 8 November. The two minutes’ silence will take place at 11am.


Fly-tipping costs builder £4,289

Fly tipping Poynter Little Gerpins Lane 110714

Mr Liam Poynter, a builder of 70 Maxey Road, Dagenham, was engaged by a householder in Belvedere through the MyBuilder.com website, to complete some decorating work and remove waste. 

On 11 July 2014, this waste, which included building and decorating products, a table, radiator cover and packaging material, was dumped in Little Gerpins Lane, Upminster a regular spot for fly-tipping. Havering’s officers found evidence at the scene, linking the waste to Mr Poynter.

At Barkingside Magistrates Court on 25 September 2015, Mr Poynter failed to attend but was found guilty and fined £3,000, with costs of £1,169 and a victim surcharge of £120, a total £4,289.

Each police Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) holds meetings where the public can attend, ask questions and get crime prevention advice.

Language Classes for Children

Your children can start their language learning from the age of four at these courses run by the Europa Centre and Havering Adult College. French, Spanish and Italian are all on offer. For Primary aged children, these courses cost £180 for 30 weeks. Enquire about enrolment here.

The Leaning Walls of Rainham in Upminster

Professor John Burland, of Imperial College, London is the guest speaker at the Upminster Historic Environment Forum meeting on Tuesday 20 October, from 1pm until 2.30pm, at The Old Chapel, Upminster (pictured).

He will be talking about the work he has done on the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the leaning walls of St Helens and St Giles Church, Rainham.

Havering Nordic Walkers Club is holding a free taster session on Saturday 17 October. The club also holds monthly ‘Learn to Nordic Walk’ sessions at Thames Chase Community Forest Visitors’ Centre in Pike Lane, Upminster. Weekend GPs’ service in Havering

Did you know that GPs in Havering have opened a weekend service? Local GPs are ready and waiting to see you from 12noon - 5pm on Saturday and 12noon - 4pm on Sunday.

Weekend GP appointments are easy and convenient, so if you are unwell or injured and can’t get to see your own GP during the week – call us this weekend. 

Any patient registered with a Havering GP can call to book an appointment direct on 020 3770 1888. Phone lines are open from 9am - 3pm on both days.
