Bikeability cycle training

On your bike for half term

Three free courses for cyclists are running at myplace, Harold Hill during the school half-term holiday.

Start to Ride is a one-day course on Tuesday 27 October.

Bikeability Level One and Two is a two-day course on Wednesday 28 October and Thursday 29 October.

Bikeability Level Three is a one-day course on Friday 30 October.

Free cycle maintenance courses

The Council's cycle maintenance classes are up and running again.

The free classes at myplace, in Dagnam Park Drive, Harold Hill, includes a basic course, which covers how to fix a puncture, while the advanced course includes removal and installation of cycle parts.

Cycle security

Transport for London has produced a video which shows how to make your cycle secure and less attractive to thieves.

Havering Police Safer Transport Team also gives free advice on cycle security.

Mark it in the Market

Mark it in the Market

Havering Police Safer Transport Team security code cycles free of charge in Romford Market.

The next session will be on Saturday 7 November, between 11.00am and 2.00pm at the South Street end of the market place, near Cycles UK.

Everyone who gets their bike marked will receive a free puncture repair kit.

Havering Cyclists AGM on Monday

The 2015 Annual General Meeting of Havering Cyclists will take place from 8pm on Monday 12 October at JJ Moons in Hornchurch.

Local cyclists are welcome to attend.

The Havering Branch of the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) meets on the second Monday of every month in Hornchurch. Any interested cyclist can attend.

Havering cyclists at Ingrebourne Visitor Centre

Ideal for a break

The newly opened Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre, in Hornchurch Country Park, is an ideal place for cyclists to stop for a rest and a cuppa when cycling the Ingrebourne Way.

Havering Cyclists and the Havering Police Safer Transport Team were at the official opening last weekend (pictured).

Cycle grants for schools

Five Havering schools have received grants from Transport for London to support cycling among their pupils and staff.

The schools are:

Broadford Primary School, In Harold Hill, received £2,785 for cycle storage, pool bikes, cycle clubs and trips

Rainham Village Primary School, received £1,380 for pool bikes

St Mary’s RC Primary School, in Hornchurch, received £500 for cycle storage

St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, in Collier Row, received £2,050 for cycle storage, pool bikes and cycle club

Towers Junior School, in Hornchurch, received £2,285 for cycle storage, pool bikes and cycle club.


Redden Court studnets at Velopark cycle

VeloPark day for Harold Wood students

Students from Redden Court School, in Harold Wood, joined selected students from across London for the Lee Valley VeloPark Schools’ Festival.

Lee Valley VeloPark is the only place where riders can tackle track cycling, BMX, road and mountain biking in one location and the students (pictured) were able to experience all four cycling disciplines during an action packed day.

for Sky Rides

Sky Rides in Havering this year will follow two different routes.

On Sunday 8 November,  starting at 10am from Upminster Library, Corbets Tey Road, Upminster, RM14 2BB, there is the South Havering Circular ride.

This Havering Sky Ride is free and includes guides. More information on this Sky Ride is available here.

There are several cycling groups that operate in Havering. 

All welcome new members and offer the opportunity to ride with fellow cyclists. You can also search for clubs further afield using the club finder tool on the British Cycling website.
