Hornchurch flower power wins 11 London in Bloom awards

Hornchurch flower power has helped Havering win the
top award in the London in Bloom 2015
competition with 11 awards being won in the town.
Local areas which gained awards were:
Hornchurch
Country Park which took two gold awards in the Large Conservation and Area and
Country Park of the Year categories as well as winning the London in Bloom
Meadows Award.
Elm
Park Town Centre which won silver in the Town Centres under 1 sq km
category
St
Andrews Park which won silver gilt in both the Park of the Year and the
Small Conservation Area categories
Queen's
Theatre Green (pictured) winning bronze in the Small Conservation Area category
Hacton
Parkway winning silver gilt in the Conservation Area category
Harrow
Lodge Park winning bronze in both the Large Conservation Area and Large Park
categories
Hylands
Park winning silver inthe Large Park category.
Havering won 47 of the 193 awards
available across London and will now represent the capital in the Britain
in Bloom 2016 competition.
 New café
now open
The
Café on the Lake in Harrow Lodge Park is
now open for business following a major refurbishment.
The
internal space has been increased to allow more people to sit inside and the
toilets have also been refurbished and are now reached from inside the cafe.
Newly installed double glazing will help keep the building nice and warm when
it is open during the cold winter months.
The
improvement works were carried out by Havering Council and funded by a grant of
£125,000 from the Veolia North Thames Trust
(VNTT).

 Spitfire fly-past for school
The R. J. Mitchell Primary School in Hornchurch, named after the designer of the iconic Spitfire fighter, will be having a formal re-opening ceremony on Friday 25 September, following an extensive re-building programme.
A special RAF flypast of wartime aircraft, including a Spitfire, will take place during the opening ceremony, which begins at 11am. The aircraft will fly over the school three times as part of the celebrations.

potholes.
Completing the correct form sends it direct to the right
people to deal with that issue.

Musicians hit right note for town centre
Hornchurch
town centre will be filled with music on Saturday 3 October when a range of
musicians perform at locations along the High Street. This is the second such
event following a successful launch last year. Local traders will welcome
shoppers, who will be serenaded from 12noon until 3pm.

Langtons
Gardens restoration
Work is
progressing well with the £1.9m restoration of the grounds of Langtons Hall in
Hornchurch.
The
next month should see work start on the new café facilities and new roofs on The Orangery (pictured) and the Stable Block.
Work to
the paths should also be nearing completion.

 The Roobies top bill at street party
Hornchurch-based
band The Roobies was joined by the Deputy
Mayor of Havering, Councillor Philippa Crowder, at a street party in
Collier Row to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen becoming Great Britain’s longest
reigning monarch.

 Rooms for hire
Community groups can hire rooms at libraries and other council buildings for meetings and events.
The newly refurbished Hacton Lane Hall (pictured), in Haydock Close, Hornchurch, is worth checking out if you are planning a party or run a local community group.
