Information from Havering Council about possible travel hotspots next week

Week ending: Friday 03 July 2015

District Line Update

On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, there is no service between Aldgate East and Dagenham East. This is to allow for Crossrail work at Whitechapel, track and drainage replacement work at East Ham and station improvement work at Stepney Green.

Replacement buses operate.

Battis footpath closure

Until Monday 20 July, The Battis footpath, near Romford Railway Station, will be closed from South Street to Waterloo Road, to allow improvement work to take place. Diversions will be in place.

Work starts at Gidea Park station

Network Rail has started work on refurbishing the footbridge at Gidea Park Station as part of significant improvements to prepare the station for the arrival of Crossrail. The station recently became part of the Transport for London rail network and upgrades will also include: two new lifts to provide step-free access to the platforms, platform extensions to accommodate the new 200m long Crossrail trains which can carry up to 1,500 passengers, and new platform lighting and CCTV.

Work is expected to finish by Summer 2016.

Platform work underway at Romford Station

Crossrail is coming, and to make sure the longer trains can stop at Romford, work starts in June to extend the western end of the platforms so they will be over the River Rom.

The work is due to finish in May 2016 and will involve closure of some footpaths in the station area.

A13 lane closures

During the next week, as part of work being done by Highways England, there may be lane closures on the A13, near the junction with the M25.

Roadworks

From Monday 6 July until Thursday 8 July, road works will take place outside 165 Collier Row Lane, Collier Row. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

From Monday 6 July until Tuesday 11 August, road works will take place outside 164 Brentwood Road, Gidea Park. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

From Tuesday 7 July until Wednesday 12 August, road works will take place outside 335 Osborne Road, Hornchurch. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

Until Tuesday 28 July, road works will take place on Junction Road, Romford. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

Until Friday 31 July, road works will take place outside 4 Osborne Road, Hornchurch. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

Until Thursday 6 August, road works will take place outside 164 Osborne Road, Hornchurch. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

Until October 2015, junction improvement work will take place to install a roundabout to replace the traffic lights at the junction of Straight Road, Harold Hill with Broxhill Road, Lower Bedfords Road and Noak Hill Road. Drivers are advised to find alternative routes if possible.

Until 2017, work by Transport for London (TfL) to replace the bridge which takes the A127 over the railway at Ardleigh Green, is taking place. During this work there will be a 30mph speed limit in place, and some off-peak lane closures (10am until 3pm and 10pm until 5am).

A12 closures next week

From Monday 6 July until Friday 10 July, between 8pm until 6am, the southbound A12 will be totally closed and the north bound carriageway will be one lane only, between junction 11 (for M25) and junction 12 (for A1023 Chelmsford Road).

The Highways Agency is resurfacing the carriageway and renewing road markings, repairing barriers and drainage systems and improving lighting within these works.

Diversions will be in place.

Woolwich Ferry closures

The Woolwich Ferry will be closed during high tides between Monday 29 June and Monday 6 July to allow essential maintenance on the bridges that allow vehicles and pedestrians to get on and off the ferry.

The ferry service will be suspended at the following times:

Saturday 4 July from 2.45pm until 5.45pm
Sunday 5 July, last crossing 3.15pm
Monday 6 July, service begins 6.50am and there is no service after 4pm

Taxi fare payments consultation

Transport for London (TfL) has launched a consultation on whether passengers using London’s taxis should be able to pay by card.

Currently there is no requirement on taxi drivers to accept cards for payment of fares, although around half of drivers do so.

Greener taxis consultation

Transport for London (TfL) has launched a consultation on proposed changes to taxi and private hire vehicle licensing ahead of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which will be introduced in central London in 2020.

Responses to the consultation can be made here before the deadline of Tuesday 11 August.

Win a Brompton folding bike

Havering’s cyclists can influence what cycling facilities will be provided at Crossrail stations in the Borough and could win a Brompton folding bike (pictured) for sending in their views.

A survey has been launched by TFL Rail, which is now running trains between Shenfield and Liverpool Street as the first stage of the Crossrail service.

Gidea Park, Harold Wood and Romford stations are all on the new TFL Rail service.
