On parade to support Armed Forces

Bring the family to Romford Market for Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June, to celebrate the contribution of our Armed Services and watch a parade of veterans and cadets through Romford.

The parade starts at South Street, Romford at 10.30am and will finish at Tollgate House in the Market Place, Romford.

Win a Tower of London Poppy

Romford Shopping Hall running a raffle in aid of Veterans Aid, a Registered Charity that helps ex-service men and women with housing, work and emotional support.

You can buy a strip of raffle tickets for just £1 these are available at ANY shop throughout Romford Shopping Hall to be in with a chance of winning a ceramic Tower of London Poppy with a certificate and presentation box!

ALL proceeds will go directly back to this worthy cause.

The winner will be announced on Armed Forces Day Saturday 27 June.

Free balloon animals

Come along to Romford Market between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday 27 June and you’ll be able to chat with characters in costume, while children can watch balloon animals being made and get one to take home.

A Nissan NV200 van (pictured) and Leaf car will be outside Lloyds Bank, along with representatives from Nissan who can explain the benefits of electric vehicles and answer questions about their cost and performance.

The historical Romford Market began nearly 800 years ago, in 1247, and trades every Wednesday and Friday from 9am until 4.30pm and every Saturday from 9am until 5pm.

Among the new traders that are at Romford Market on Saturdays is a stall selling artisan breads and related products and one providing a stencil service when decorating your home or business.

Romford Market currently has some spaces for new traders. Preference will be given to those wanting to trade on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays but there is also limited space available for new traders wanting to operate on one day only.

Three charities will have stands at the Lloyds Bank end of Romford Market on Saturday 27 June.

First steps, which is one of the charities supported by the Mayor of Havering this year, will be promoting its work.

Help for Heroes is the third charity which will have a stand in the Market Place as part of the Armed Forces Day event.


Author Kimberley Chambers in Romford Market

Back to market for top author

Former market trader turned best-selling author Kimberley Chambers was in Romford Market last Saturday for a book-signing that attracted a large number of her fans.

Kimberley, who lives in Romford and used to drive mini-cabs in the Borough, had her first job as a market trader and now has topped the Sunday Times best seller lists for her crime novels.

She was signing The Wronged, her tenth novel.

Look out for more special events in Romford Market over the summer.


Mark it in the Market

Mark it in the Market - date change

Havering Police Safer Transport Team security code cycles free of charge in Romford Market each month.

The next session will be on Saturday 4 July, between 11.00am and 2.00pm at the South Street end of the market place outside Cycles UK Romford.

All residents have to do is turn up so their bike can be security marked and stickers attached to warn would be thieves that they should leave this cycle alone. Details are added to the Bike Register.
