Litter louts watch out
Harold Wood Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) has been on patrol in Painesbrook
Park, Harold Wood helping volunteers clear litter left by some park users.
Not only do these “litter louts” make the area unpleasant for people to
use but they also run the risk of getting an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice.
|

That is reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days, but can be as much as £2,500 if the case goes to court.
If you see litter being dropped you
can report it here.

Sixth Form College, Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, RM11 3TB, between
5.30pm and 7.30pm on

- Tuesday 16 June

- Tuesday 30 June and
- Tuesday 7 July
Any local resident is welcome to attend these
screenings and make their views known.

Secure your cycle
Cycles are expensive to replace and some
simple steps can make them secure.
PCSO Jackie Whitelock, from Havering Police
Safer Transport Team, said: "When leaving your bike use a D-lock so it is
securely fastened to a cycle stand or similar object. If locking it to railings
please make sure there is enough room for pedestrians to get past.
"Investing in a good lock, which can’t
be easily cut, can deter cycle thieves. The one I'm holding can easily be cut
with bolt croppers or even strong secateurs.
"Please make sure you’ve added your
cycle to the Bike Register so it can be returned to you if it is stolen and
then recovered.
"The easiest way to join the Bike Register
is by coming to a Mark it in the Market event on the first Saturday of each
month, near Cycles UK in Romford Market."

No insurance = no car
If you drive without insurance your car will be seized, as happened to the driver of this mini, which was seized in early April in Harold Hill.

Meet the police
on Community Engagement Day
Havering Police’s next Community Engagement
Day is on Tuesday 16 June, and will once again involve Havering Council's
Community Safety team along with your Neighbourhood Policing Team from Havering
Police and Special Constables.
There will also be live Tweeting of calls that come into Havering Police during the day, with updates of responses.
Across the Borough, officers will give out crime
prevention advice, security code cycles, provide purse chains, and distribute timers for
lights and radios, so burglars think someone is at home.
So if you are running an event on that day and
want to invite the police along, contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Warm weather warning
During warm weather it’s tempting to leave
doors and windows open and that can tempt burglars.
PC Lee Smith, said: "Following some
simple crime prevention measures can help reduce the risk of you becoming a
victim.
- So if you’re in the back garden enjoying the sun,
please make sure your front windows and doors are locked.
- Don’t leave valuables, especially keys, near open
windows or where they can be hooked out through the letterbox.
- Growing prickly plants close to windows deters burglars
from trying to reach through them.
- Keep gates at the side of houses locked.
- Keep shed and garage doors shut and locked when no-one
is in them.
- Don’t leave valuable items such as bikes or pushchairs
in places where they can be easily taken.
"Remember the few minutes while you pop
in for a drink is all a thief needs to steal your valuables."
Burglars like homes that are easy to
enter. #ThinkLikeABurglar

Don’t be a victim
Harold Wood SNT is offering residents a FREE home security
survey, which could help prevent them becoming a victim of crime.
If you want a survey of your home, please call the team on
0208 721 2509.

Secure your sheds
Sheds and garages can be attractive to thieves so it
makes sense to keep them secure.
Having a good lock on the door makes it difficult for a
thief to quickly pop in and steal your tools.
Putting tools, especially expensive power tools, into a locked
metal box which is secured to the floor or wall is also a good deterrent.
Having motion sensitive lighting can help keep criminals
away and some are solar powered so there is no running cost either.
 Meet the SNT
Harold Wood SNT invites you to pop in for a coffee and chat
at the Team Base in Station Road, Harold Wood, between 10am and 11am on Friday 12 June, between 4pm and 5pm on either Saturday 27 June or Monday 13 July.
