29 January 2021
At what is still such a difficult time for London and the country, it’s heartening hearing that so many of our older and most vulnerable residents have received the vaccine in Camden. People who are over 70 or extremely clinically vulnerable, care home patients and staff and health and care professionals are prioritised because they are at most risk from the virus. When it’s your turn, the NHS will be in touch, so please wait for them to contact you and in the meantime make sure you’re registered with your local GP. The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and our best hope of protection against the virus.
Even if you have had a dose of the vaccine, please continue to follow public health advice. By staying at home and following the guidance if we have to go out for an essential reason, we are helping to protect ourselves, our community, and the NHS.
Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council

Why I got the COVID-19 vaccine
Dr Zuhaib Keekeebhai is a Camden GP at the James Wigg and Queens Crescent Practices. He is pictured above while receiving the COVID-19 vaccine from fellow Camden GP, Dr Ehsan Alkizwini.
He said: “The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective, and I urge you to have it too when it’s your turn.”
Find out more about the COVID-19 vaccine at nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119.

Working from home because of COVID-19?
If you’re working from home on a regular basis because of COVID-19, you may be able to claim tax relief. The tax relief is to help with extra household costs caused from spending more time at home (for example, higher electricity bills) and can be backdated to when you first began working from home.

Advice to self-isolate safely if you live with other people
If you share your home with other people, it can be extra challenging to prevent the spread of coronavirus. If you develop symptoms, or someone you live with does, you must all self-isolate for 10 days and follow this advice to prevent those you live with catching the virus.
- Stay 2 metres apart from people you live with, especially if they are clinically extremely vulnerable, e.g. avoid using shared areas at the same time.
- Wear a face covering in shared areas, unless exempt.
- Regularly clean your home. Take extra care to clean frequently touched surfaces, e.g. door handles and toilet flush.
- Wash your hands more regularly, particularly after sneezing, coughing or blowing your nose. Do not share towels.
- Keep your home well-ventilated, e.g. open windows.
- Keep an eye on anyone who’s got symptoms. If you’re worried, call the NHS for free on 111. In an emergency, phone 999.

Camden Community Champions – welcome and introduction, 3 February
Community Champions are residents who want to improve health and wellbeing in their local area. They do this by speaking to others about what needs to be improved locally, telling others what services and activities are available locally, and can help set up new activities and events.
There are three local programmes, each led by a community organisation, in Regent’s Park, Kentish Town and Kilburn.
This project is an opportunity to get to know your neighbours better and meet new people. Ongoing training and support will be available. Anyone can become a Community Champion for their area, if they can spare a couple of hours a month to help.
Join us for a Zoom welcome session on Wednesday, 3 February. Book a spot at either 11.30am or 5.30pm, to find out more about Camden Community Champions and how you can get involved.
