Resurfacing of Gower Street

October 2019

Gower Street is changing

Resurfacing of Gower Street to start in November

From the 25th November we will start the resurfacing of Gower Street in preparation for the change to two way traffic in the spring.

We are working in sections along the road to minimise the disruption. Road closures, pedestrian diversions and pedestrian crossing closures will all be needed to facilitate this work.

Resurfacing

Between the 25th November and 13th December we will be resurfacing Gower Street. We will work in sections to take up the existing road surface and lay a new surface with raised areas, designed to slow traffic down.

Letters to all businesses and residents are being delivered this week.

Noise and access

One of the noisest parts of this work involves digging to prepare the road for resurfacing. We will also have large vehicles moving around the area to prepare and lay the new road surface. We apologise for the inconvenience that this work will cause. We will be working as efficiently as possible to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum throughout.

Contact

If you have any concerns during the works you can contact the West End Project enquiry line 24 hours a day on 0845 3308 743.

Resurfacing 2

Impacts

Each section will take 9 days to resurface. During this time we will need to put in place road closures to side streets and close a section of Gower Street. Pedestrian diversions will be in place and there will be closures to pedestrian crossings.

During this time there will be no vehicle access 24 hours a day to the closed section of Gower Street.

For more detail on each section see our website for the programme. This timetable is subject to change and will be updated as the work continues.
