Two Way traffic on Tottenham Court Road - use the crossing points

August 2019

The future of Tottenham Court Road

Cross safely on Tottenham Court Road - always use the pedestrian crossings

Crossing Tottenham Court Road safely

Now that Tottenham Court Road is two way to traffic please take care when crossing the road and use the pedestrian crossing points.

While congestion is heavy on the northbound side please be aware of overtaking traffic, motorbikes and cyclists. The traffic light controlled crossings are the safest way to cross the road.

Driving safely on Tottenham Court Road

The northbound lane on Tottenham Court Road will continue to be busier while we complete work on Gower Street / Bloomsbury Street. Thank you for your patience.

Please drive carefully through the area and be mindful of pedestrians crossing the road. Please take extra care when overtaking and only do so when safe. Be extra vigilant for cyclists at all times.

Cycling around the area

Tottenham Court Road southbound is buses and cyclists only 24 hours a day until spring 2020 when the permanent restrictions come into place. Cyclists may find it easier to continue to use Gower Street southbound if coming from Hampstead Road.

Tottenham Court Road northbound is busier while we are working on Gower Street
and so cyclists may find it easier to use Quiet Route 1. This route runs in part parallel to Tottenham Court Road and uses Montague Place, Mallet Street and Tavistock Place.
